Hi ladies, just wondering what happens at your 6 week postnatal check I'm a bit nervous about it! Tia xx

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

This is what the NHS says:

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/postnatal-check.aspx#close

but I've found that it is a brief chat about contraception, depression, stitches & anything else I wanted to mention.

Mine was a double appointment for me and baby. Baby had a full check over, eyes, hips, heart etc and I was asked about contraception and any concerns I had. The doctor did have a quick look at my stitches but only because I asked him to, I was worried because the midwives hadn't checked them and wanted to make sure it was all healing ok. It's really nothing to worry about and a good opportunity to discuss any concerns you have.

My surgery does the baby check at 8 weeks and then sends you through for the first vaccinations. When I booked my last PN check/baby check/imms appt for DC3, the receptionist joked that I should bring a packed lunch! Grin

I was wondering this too, according to google it varies a lot. There's an appointment time in baby's red book but not sure if that's just for him and I need to book my own, or if that's for both of us Confused

My 6 week check was separate to my baby's 8 week check.

My GP carried it out, checked my stitches/scarring as I had a tear and episiotomy.

Discussed contraception and prescribed the pill for me.

Asked how I was feeling and coping, probably to see if she suspected PND, baby blues etc.

I think that was about it! Very quick and positive, felt nice to sort of end the pregnancy and childbirth knowing everything was well!

My baby's had a separate check at 8 weeks, a full health check, weight, length, heartbeat, the same as the 1 day old check at the hospital I think!
