ELCS - what official confirmation were you given?

This will be my DS4 but first ELCS. The consultant agreed ELCS at 16 weeks and booked it at my 34 week appt (4 weeks ago) for 8th October. I was told to make an ante natal appt for swabs given forms etc.

Just returned from said appointment feeling very anxious. I should apparently have had another appointment explaining which ward, what time and prescribing some medication. The lack of prescription caused a lot of grief as my appointment was at the MLU so no doctors on site to prescribe. this was eventually overcome but the only "proof" of my appointment is the Consultant handwriting lcs 8/10 on my hand held notes but tbh it could have been written by anyone. MW also told me yo book a MW appointment for 40 weeks in case my ELCS gets cancelled (is allegedly booked for 39+3) Is this normal procedure? or should I have a letter etc?

I have a letter confirming date and they have scribbled a pre-op date on it too - they haven't given me a time or anything yet, apparently they don't know until the day which makes me worry it will be postponed!

maybe ask them to confirm it in a letter or email, you should have a pre-op

Good luck!

Please don't worry. Do you have another consultant appointment before section? If not, ring the antenatal clinic and speak to them about it-they will be able to check theatre lists etc. you prob will need a pre op appointment anyway for bloods, swabs, consent etc.
My section is booked for next week. Saw consultant last week who booked it and got me to sign consent. Had pre op yesterday for bloods and chat/assessment with anaesthetist. Haven't had a letter or anything, just told to go to postnatal ward at 07.30. x

Thanks for your reply. today was my pre-op so had the mrsa swabs etc. Blood test forms were incorrect though!

I will try and speak to someone at main hospital on Monday to see if I can get some kind of confirmation.

MW said she was pretty sure I should arrive at 7am though need to prepare myself for it not happening until I was over 40 weeks as I would be low priority. totally understand about emergencies but was assuming maybe next day not the next week. I just came away feeling stressed and anxious. hopefully that will at least keep spontaneous labour at bay..Hmm

Thanks again and hope all goes to plan with your ELCS.

x-post upupandaway. Thanks for reassurance. I signed consent forms at last consultant appointment and has pre-op today so no more appointments pending. I think 2 not great birth experiences with this hospital already has me more on edge than I realised. and being somewhat tired and hormonal isn't helping either! Hope all goes well for you.
