I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place. I've just had the news that a close friend has died during childbirth.

She bled so much they induced a coma and then she had a heart attack and died.

The baby is ok.

I have no idea how to process this information, and I just want to scream with the unfairness of it.

Oh goodness, I'm so, so sorry. That's appalling news and you must be so distressed.

Oh my goodness what awful news for you. I hope you are ok.

Its always the risks of labour that I worry about whenever a friend or family member goes into hospital, rather than the new babyness, but I cannot comprehend how sad this will be for her family and friends.

Have you got anyone around you for support at the moment (aside from us of course)?

You are completely allowed to scream at the unfairness of it. That's what I did with my friend whose fiancé died in childbirth 12 yrs ago, screamed and screamed together until somehow it felt a little better day by day. There's no rhyme or reason to these things.

Oh my word! I am in shock and I know neither of you! You poor thing and her poor family - I mean I know it does happen but really, it's one of those things that you never quite believe could happen in this day and age.

I really hope everyone that knows the family, and you, find a way through your grief and the practical side of helping the new baby and dad.

You may perhaps be supported better there.

I dont want to.sound insensitice either but the Childbirth board is frequented mainly by those either just been through delivery or about to and (for me at 37 weeks certainly) it has been a hard thread to encounter.

Magic if that was directed at me - I commented supportively earlier on the thread, and it was a genuine message.

However I am encouraging a move of this thread to Bereavement as it is a very emotive and sensitive topic to put within the Chilbirth section and there is no warning in the title. The women frequenting this particular board will be close to birth themselves and will find themselves in this thread without warning and it is a very very difficult topic.

I wholeheartedly offered my condolances to the family and friends of the deceased (and to the OP), earlier. That still stands.

However I do think this needs moving.
