Saw midwife at 36 weeks and asked on my next appointment at 38 weeks can I have a sweep, answer NO!! Hmm They have changed rules to only once you reach 40 weeks
Has anyone else been effected by this or just my area?
I had baby last July and had sweeps before 40weeks

I thought they waited till 40, I had one at 41, and then had to be induced anyway. Did your last sweeps do anything because I don't know of anyone who had a sweep done and it worked although I'm sure sometimes it does.
However a friend of mine who had a baby recently kept nagging her midwife and told her that she couldn't cope any more with sciatica and braxton hicks that she wanted the baby out now, and she needed a sweep and was given one at 38?
Do you have any reason to want one early? I think they would rather you didn't before 40 if the pregnancy isn't effecting you in anyway.

I don't believe there is any evidence that sweeps have an effect on labour starting. A sweep at 38 weeks wouldn't stop you going overdue.

With my ds1 (4 years ago) they offered me a sweep 4 days before my due date. With ds2 (5 months ago) they said it had changed and they no longer offer them until due date.

I wasn't allowed one until 41 weeks...

I had 4! Pretty much every other day starting at 40 weeks. Was still induced. Not convinced they work!

I had DS 15 months ago and they don't do sweeps here until you're 41 weeks - not that I wanted one, but at 40+1 appt it wasn't offered. I went into labour at 40+2 Grin

why do you want one? In gather they only ever work if you're 'favourable' anyway, in which case you're about to go anyway.

I guess it doesn't bother me having one before, baby will come when ready, just wasn't aware of change.
Had it before 40 weeks last time and went over anyway lol

So prob doesn't make any difference just need to learn to be patient Grin

Easier said than done lol

I had one at 40 weeks, that's the earliest they do them in my area. Next time I'm going to say no, it was absolutely horrific, had no effect whatsoever and there's no evidence to suggest they work.
