Super heavy first period post childbirth - normal?

I had my second DC by ELCS nearly 10 weeks ago and my first period since started on Friday. It seemed normal initially but since the early hours of this morning has become ridiculously heavy, soaking through a super tampon every 2 hours. My periods before DC2 were pretty light, and I honestly can't remember what the first one after DC1 was like as it's over 4 years ago.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal? I am slightly concerned about the blood loss as I lost nearly 2 litres during the section and my red blood cell count only came back into the normal range about a week ago. If it is still this heavy tomorrow should I try and see someone, do you think?

My periods completely changed after I had my first DS. They used to be very light and are now super-heavy on the first day- much as you describe. I'm sure it's all really normal but certainly get checked out if you feel you need to. It won't hurt to get a second opinion!

Perfectly normal. They will ease up I promise. You're body will take a while to adjust. If not normal in 6 months or so maybe see someone then.

Completely normal, my periods have gradually got heavier after each baby. The first few are the pits, I'm on my 3rd one after my twins and go through a pad an hr for the first 2 days :-( they gradually ease off a little.

Thank you, that's reassuring. I will be getting a Mirena coil fitted in the next few weeks which I gather makes them light/non existent which will be great!

Yup, same thing happened to me. Had first one at around 4 months post birth, then a really heavy one 19 days later...soaking through every few hours. They used to be light. Now, 19 days later, period pain came and went but no period. It's all screwy, more so than after first DC

Yeah my first few periods after ds2 were super heavy and felt like my insides were falling out! I was going to consult gp but then they went back to roughly like they were before although I now have a shorter cycle. Didn't get this post ds1!
