Mini rant - impatient

9 months, once again I feel like a bit of a freak.

On forums I see midwives giving sweeps at 38-39 weeks, doctors deciding anyone higher risk can't go over, inductions booked for 40 weeks.

I'm sat here 40+6, still baking.

Logically I am very glad my hospital won't sweep you until you're favourable and a few days over 40 weeks (because that's when it will work) and don't "panic induce" anyone slightly high risk before 42 weeks. I know I have 1 week max to wait, have a sweep booked for the weekend, and will be sensibly monitored in the meantime. I have a greater chance of a straightforward birth that way. All I need to do is count the kicks and sit tight...

...but I just feel like in some other towns baby would be out by now. And that little doubt in my mind that maybe they're being too relaxed leaving a baby in my rubbish uterus till 42 weeks.

I know, I could have had a sweep last Friday. I declined as was only 40+3 and don't really want intervention but had a sweep yesterday (wed) when 41+1 and now I'm thinking bugger if I'd had that first sweep... As truley getting fed up and want to avoid chemical induction on Sunday...
I'm sure your baby will be fine (though I've had similar thoughts!!) and I just don't want to rush him/her out just because it suits HCPs (even though it would suit me v well too right now!!). I'm sure if there was a serious medical reason (placenta failing/BP high etc) they would induce you etc. I'm just trying to get done sleep & rest before the inevitable!! Good luck.

Got woken up by a thunderstorm, had some epic BH. Got excited. Realised I had to go to the toilet (just go to the toilet, as it turned out, not 'oh this is actually labour') now disappointed and debating whether it's worth trying to sleep again or just get up and resume stair fricken walking!!

Yeah they keep a good eye on me. I keep trying to remember that early sweeps/inductions don't work as well, so you may as well wait...

Ah squiz we need to remember we're not rubbish, just good at cooking babies!

I'm having a day off trying anything today. 3 sweeps now and not a flipping thing to show for any of them. No plug, twinges, not even any dilation!

Someone was moaning on another thread that they were 39 weeks or something and 'only' 2cm - I'm not that at 41+4!!!

Rage at others having babies before me is not a good look but I can't help it. I'm with envy!!

I was happy as anything at 39 weeks driving round, walking etc. now... Hmmmm. I think the same. It's not a nice trait but...
I think a day off & go out & do something non-baby-related is a good idea!!

It's impossible to regress in pregnancy isn't it? As in instead of the hormones getting to 40-42 weeks, starting to tail off so induction is inevitable?
Having a crazy paranoid moment I don't feel heffalump enough!! BH not hurting at all - just tight, colostrum just a damp smear/drop, not waddling as much as i imagined or had painful lightning crotch recently.
It's impossible to go backwards and disengage head/have the cervix fatten up again... isn't it?
Keep recalling the mw looking dubiously when I described my BH as if they should hurt more!

I don't think so!!! But I really know why you might think that as its crossed my mind a few times. My BH are not that strong, no period pains, no milking (!), waddling but been doing that for weeks!! I keep thinkng "Just breathe..."

Squiz - keep going! I didn't have ANY signs yesterday before waters went.

Being overdue is completely shit. You have my huge (no pun intended) sympathies and I may be there myself in 10 days.

Yes the logical part of your mind knows it's great that you have a nice low risk baby /pregnancy that can sit and wait until it hopefully happens naturally (I know your pregnancy did not start off low risk) and of course you don't want an early /prem baby and you don't really envy people who have ELCSs (even though the bastards do have guaranteed delivery dates) or inductions for medical reasons…

…. BUT FUCKING HELL WHERE'S MY BABY!!??! goes your hormones as you feel like you have have been pregnant for the entirety of your life!

In my first pregnancy I was very grumpy when I went over and offered a sweep at 40+3 but didn't take it as I have never seen any good evidence it does anything whatsoever before 41 weeks. My waters went a few hours after the appointment would have been. I had had no signs for over 2 weeks at that point.

Keep the faith, chuck. 98-99% of women will labour naturally by 42 weeks.

Also anecdotally I do think later babies just seem a bit more easy going and do things like smiling and let you put them down for 5 minutes earlier.

Try and do some nice things for yourself if you can. Book a massage, go out for a meal. Drink that glass of wine you've not had for 9 months.

38+5 here so I will be trying to take my own advice in 2 weeks most likely!

Thanks guys. No firm news yet but just had a sweep: baby very very low/emgaged, I'm a little bit dilated (just a finger or two but progress!) and she gave me a nice 'firm' sweep which tmi has dislodged lots of goop and spotting and given me a low tummy ache. Got another Monday.
So steps in the right direction, and at least if it's pessary/drip Thurs/Fri I am dilating.

That all sounds really promising! Friday is a very very long time away when you are 41 weeks - each day the chances of you coming are much much higher now - I think it's unlikely you'll be induced. Really hope all goes well with the birth for you!

That is fab news and loads better than the sweep I had thurs! Fingers crossed!

Yeah its left me feeling slightly rough. Which I'm HOPING is all hormones and symptoms! hopes she hasn't jinxed it by saying that

Congratulations! My bambino - a boy - arrived Saturday lunchtime via emergency CS but he and I are doing great! Contractions started normally so no induction, had an epi as the pain was chronic and it was amazing! Now just getting on with breast feeding - so far so good - & hopefully home later today!!!

I think we had the same ish edd and were both overdue so I used to follow and compare our pregnancies.
My gorgeous ds was born on Friday, not long after a sweep. Also a smooth delivery.

Quick, painful (told this by mw as no comparively births) and I felt an overwhelming push urge early I could hardly control. Pant the head out? More like aaaarrrrgggghhheeeee boiing. .. what was that "its the baby's head... hmm I think I'll get my colleague to help stitch you after."
Ah well, at least I wasn't scared, no time and vert good hcp indeed!

That's great for your first! Well done. Very same here, it really is a lovely experience. Our bodies are truly amazing.

How's baby?

Super little feisty thing!! She WAS a bit velcro to start with but DH has managed to get her to accept naps in the basket are fun ... and we're going to try the basket at night without me feeding her to sleep, walking her, half-sleeping with her on my tummy etc'. WOO HOO.
My milk has come in. She isn't sure whether that is epic food heaven or to be enraged that mum's boobs are different. Had a bit of a worried/weepy bit about that, till huge poo nappies and a reassuring helpline chat assured me its a phase.
