Anyone not had 6 week post natal check

Just wondered if any one has actually not had their 6 week post natal check. My ds is nearly 15 weeks old and i have not had my post natal check, not because i don't want it - just because i completely forgot to make appointment and i do feel fine.

Anyway, doctors keep telephoning me and sending me letters asking me to get in touch to arrange an appointment. Is this the norm?

Tia

It is an important check,to check any stitches, your well being, feeding of baby.
And also to check things with the baby, clicky hips, descended testicles etc.

Thanks for your reply.
Baby has had all his check hip, testicles etc. It's just myself who has had no checks. I had no stitches and birth was straightforward but i will give them a ring on monday x

DD had her check but I didn't have mine. They had seen feeding was established before this, that the stitches were healed and I had passed the PND scoring. So I didn't bother booking and no one chased me for it. Forgot all about it until one of the other mums mentioned it tbh...

I went along to mine both times but second time I think I just went along because I felt I aught to.

Both times the only topic they asked me about was contraception and according to all of my friends this seems the norm around here. Friends who'd had lots of stitching and were being expected to be checked over weren't.

When/if I have my next I don't think I'll bother

My midwife asked me whether I'd booked my 6 week check and I asked her what the point was as I was well, stitches healing and was having no issues. I would have gone to see Dr, he would have asked how I was, i'd have said fine, end of appt. She agreed there was no point, unless there was anything in particular I wanted to discuss with the GP.

littlejohnnydory · 06/09/2014 22:49

I had one with my first child, declined them after dc 2 and 3, as there really was no point, just a series of questions to which I'd have answered "fine". I'd have gone to the GP if any problems. I did keep getting sent reminders so just rang the surgery and said I didn't need a check.

MrsHoolie · 06/09/2014 23:29

In that case it doesn't seem like you need to go. Or perhaps you should just do it to stop them writing and ringing to you about it Smile

Clearlymisunderstood · 06/09/2014 23:34

I didn't have it with either of mine, HV said to make an appointment if I felt I needed one which I didn't so I didn't bothe.

PuppyMummy · 08/09/2014 09:01

my dr's dont do them for mums only baby! I got my midwife to check my stitches before I was discharged by them.

I guess I could have made a normal drs appointment but there didn't seem much point.

Eminybob · 08/09/2014 09:24

Slightly different issue here, but my drs receptionist has refused to book me in until DS is 10 weeks old!
My surgery does a combined mother and baby one, and although they call it a 6 week check they say they do it at 8 weeks after due date. DS was 2 weeks early so he'll be 10 weeks when we go.

I'm really pissed off because all the midwives, health visitors, and even a dr at the surgery have said 6 weeks but the receptionist is adamant. DS is 8 weeks now so I have another 2 weeks till the appointment.

I'm actually not bothered about my check up, as I'm fine on the whole, but I am concerned they won't see DS yet.

Has anyone else heard of this?

CulturalBear · 08/09/2014 11:48

I had a combined one with DS at about 8 weeks PN.

Was completely pointless for me - no checks (even though I had had problems with stitches and was concerned about lasting damage) and was simply asked how I was, and about contraception.
