I've been given one if these devices and am struggling to decide if its worth a go or complete codswallop.
I'm expecting dc3 and managed my first 2 labours with g&a and tens so not had an awful time without such a device. I just can't decide based on the limited information in the box so hoping someone has some experience of trying these things.

Watching with interest... saw this advertised but a MW I know was dubious because she said teeth clenching can slow down the relaxation of the cervix and vagina and the device might make you do that?

Was curious so I looked it up, personally I don't see why you would need it, but happy to hear what others think! You can just put your tongue on your upper teeth and your jaw naturally relaxes, and this creates the effect this device is seeking to create (as far as I can gather). That's what we learnt in hypnobirthing. Maybe they are going with the principle that some assistance to relax the jaw could help in the process of labor?

Putting your tongue on your upper teeth places your jaw in a 'realxed' position but doesn't guarantee the muscles will be relaxed at all: you can have a tense jaw and a mouth in any position (I know this not from birth prep but speech/vocal therapy work, and when learning how to get people into a relaxed state- position can be highly deceptive).
That's why the person I asked was concerned that an object to 'make' you relax would actually tempt your mouth to brace round it IYSWIM.

Yes I do see what you mean! It worked for me a little bit (the teeth thing without an aide) but as you say you have to be focused on relaxing rather than relying on the position alone.

I've looked at it and had concerns about the teeth clenching thing. I'm a clencher naturally and thing I would use it aid clenching rather then to relax me.
Would love to hear from someone who has actually used it
