can you ask for induction?

I'm currently 34 weeks and really stuggling to find someone to care for my daughter when I go into labour. She is 18 months old. My husband is in the army and we moved to the area at the beginning of the year but don't really know anyone that I would trust to look after her. My dad lives 2 hours away, and doesn't want any calls in the night and my mum is 4 hours away. I'd only want to be induced after my due date, which can only be a week out if that as we were only trying for a week. Do you think they would be willing provided I'm favourable? Thanks! X

They might well be willing. Speak to them and explain your reasons. Before 41 weeks, the risks of intervention are higher with induction than with a spontaneous labour, but at 41 weeks, curiously the risks of things like a section with induction are actually lower than waiting. Another option might be to consider an ELCS or a doula to accompany you to hospital when the baby comes so that your DH stays at home with DD.

Hope the baby arrives in good time before you need to worry about it though!
