Painful contractions but only in the evening... What's going on?!

Hello All,

This is my first pregnancy and I'm 38 weeks today. The last few evenings I've been experiencing some really bad pains which I think must be contractions (they are painful unlike the BH ones I've been getting up til now). They take my breath away and last for about 30 sec - 1 min each. This has been going on for nearly 3 days but only seems to happen in the evenings for 3-4 hours and I've been able to sleep through them with no pain when I then wake up in the morning.

Does this sound like pre-labour / practice pains? If it were, I'd expect to have the pains spread throughout the day so I'm a bit confused! Confused

Thanks for any advice!

I had this for a good week before I went into labour- I was actually slowly dilating as after a couple days I had a midwife appointment and she confirmed I was 2cm. Baby nit born for another six days! I think you feel
It most in the evening as you are perhaps sitting/ moving about less than in the day. Good luck!

Thank you Spinaroo - I was thinking it's odd that they are mostly in the evenings! I've got a midwife appointment on Tuesday so will definitely ask her about it then.... I assume they have to do an internal to know if I'm dilating?

Yes, unfortunately- so she may not as you're not full term yet. I was overdue and she was doing a sweep. Still took him another six days- but he was worth the wait!
