Episiotomy needing restitching?

I hope this is not tmi but here goes.

My ds was born 12 weeks ago via suction cup which meant I needed an episiotomy (cut). Since the birth dh and I have tried to have sex a number of times but it has been too painful and I have started bleeding. The gp thinks that my episiotomy scar has not healed properly and have referred me to a gynaecologist.

Does anyone have any experience of this? I am desperate for things to return to 'normal' ASAP and am worried this might take months / years to sort out.

I am amazed you are even trying already if they're not healing! I know you want things to get back to normal, but after some quite extensive stitching with ds2 I was really worried it would hurt, be different etc myself so waited until I started feeling more normal down there - there are plenty of other ways to still be couply!

The fact that it has already hurt and the knowledge that it may not be healing is also likely to make you more worried and tense - actually leading to more discomfort. While DH might not appreciate it, I would give your body a while longer to heal and if the stitches still aren't healing then get you sorted before your sex life - you have many more years to make up for it!

I had an episiotomy and third degree tear after a ventouse and forceps delivery. I wasn't really warned how long healing would take. There was some granulation tissue there 8 months after delivery that was gone by 10 months. There was some stinging scar tissue that they didn't think would heal so I had that cut out. The op wasn't too bad and I felt much better after a few weeks. However 5 months on I can still feel it improving all the time. So 12 weeks is still very early days!
