Stop, start labour - how long is this going to take?

I'm 40+2, and have been having mild contractions since last Tues. Last night, they kicked off and were very strong for about an hour and a half. I was almost convinced it was real labour, as they were 5 minutes apart.

Of course, it all calmed down and I haven't felt anything but backache this morning.

It is driving me insane - how long could this go on for? I was 2-3cm last week, with a favourable cervix. Confused

Any advice/experience very much appreciated.

My second labour was stop / start and took about 10 days. They were doubting I would actual have the baby that day an hour or so before the birth, and I swear I only managed to get him out by sheer determination that 'this was it'. I bounced around until the contractions were as frequent as the hospital wanted and refused to rest. Probably a mistake but it did the trick.
I hope your LO arrived soon!

Oh same here! First child flew out ten days early after waters broke. This one the symptoms and discomfort are just getting progressively worse over last three weeks but nada. No labour. Have had two nights of waking to quite strong contractions like yours that die out frustrar

Ohps. Frustratingly! Due in two days, and sweep
Booked, 100% sure it won't work though. I'm actually bordering on hating this child right now!

Oh dear :( well I went along to dau as reduced movements and that was fine but have another scan tomorrow as bump hasn't grown still 36.5 at 40 weeks wed now. Had a sweep and not as good as you, only 1-2cm and 'favourable' but she openly said it's unlikely to lead to anything :(

I had the same, about 6 days of slow labour. I had acupuncture and that was lovely, made me relax a bit and she kept some pressure point pins in certain places for 'bearing down'. I had DD about 12 hours later!

Just looked into acupuncture but apparently has to be okayed by a health professional
Before going ahead. Might ask at next appointment!

Nowaysis · 21/07/2014 22:46

Mine was okayed by anyone, I just went along.

She is a renowned specialist in women's health, fertility and pregnancy, so she knew what she was doing.

Ok will maybe try that then! There is one not far from me so it's a possibility :)

JenniMoo · 22/07/2014 12:00

I considered reflexology, but just waited in the end. So frustrating though!

I'm going for acupressure tomorrow, will be 41+2. Please, please, please let it work. I can't stand another possible week of stop/start contractions and the fear of induction. Hope all your babies come soon too x
