Just wondered how long you bled for following your c sec?

Varied both times with me. First c section wasn't as heavy as my usual period and lasted about 2 weeks. My sevind I bled for 4-6 weeks and had to go for a scan sheet they found a polyp which may have caused the extra bleeding.
Hope this helps.

Mine came and went a bit, but total of around five weeks.

theborrower · 08/07/2014 20:48

Mine took about 6 weeks to go completely

Thisismyfirsttime · 08/07/2014 20:58

About 6 weeks but I wore pads for longer than I needed to because a couple of times I thought it'd finished only to find I was wrong! Only needed normal sanitary towel for the last 3 weeks or so.

Showy · 08/07/2014 21:01

It's no different to a vaginal birth in that there's no rule of thumb. Up to 6 weeks is pretty average. My first it went on for just over 6 weeks. Second was only 2 weeks.

Mrsgrumble · 08/07/2014 23:20

I really had very little after two weeks or so. I have nearly non existent periods so I don't know if that's related?

starshaker · 08/07/2014 23:25

I had nothing till 6 weeks after then it was like a regular period. Midwife was very confused and didnt sign me of till i had bled

You4coffee · 08/07/2014 23:25

I was told that c section would bleed more/longer. First time was 8weeks or so and second time was shorter maybe 5-6weeks.

moomin35 · 09/07/2014 18:51

Does the blood and lochia being fluids add to the extra weight you carry post birth?

OP posts:
aussieandrea · 09/07/2014 19:47

Wouldn't have thought so as the blood you 're losing isn't really that much!

Ratfans · 09/07/2014 20:30

It's hard to say. I bleed on and off until my postnatal check 8 weeks later, but I think my period came back at 5 weeks which may explain some of it.

The GP suspected an infection and I got antibiotics, only then did it stop for good.

Annietheacrobat · 09/07/2014 22:15

Several weeks both times.

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 10/07/2014 13:36

Not really, no. Are you concerned Moomin?

iseenodust · 10/07/2014 13:45

I didn't at all for for weeks. Midwife bit surprised but I suspect I'd left it all on the theatre floor. I never expected to lose post baby weight quickly so have no idea if affected it.

WhizzPopBang · 13/07/2014 20:42

Around 5-6 weeks in total but it was only heavy for the first few days, towards the end it was very light and some days non-existent. Although the process is exactly the same as after a vaginal birth, I heard somewhere that they do a bit of a tidy up after delivering the baby and getting the placenta out, so there's less to come out! Not entirely sure about that though!

Writerwannabe83 · 15/07/2014 15:15

My bleeding was relatively heavy for about a week but then it really decreased and it was very minimal, I only had to use standard panty liners as opposed to sanitary towels. I think it had stopped completely by about 3-4 weeks.
