2nd labour experience

I'm 37+5 and wondering if 2nd labour is going to be quicker 2nd time round. We live 45miles away from hospital and DH works 25miles away from home. Also we need my DM to come and look after DD1 who is also nearly 100miles away.
With DD1 she was B2B and had induced labour (waters broken, then drip) after a very long and painful latent phase, but the actual active labour of pushing only lasted 4mins. Waters broken at 12md and DD1 born at 19.41.......I'm trying so hard to be organised and planned but the not knowing when DM should come and when things are going to start is ruining that, also How long it will last & will we have time

For me it was quicker 2nd time round.

DD1 6 hours
Dd2 3.5 hours

mine was about 1/2 the length, from 8 hours to 4.

I was induced with ds1 labour from first contraction to birth was 90 minutes

With ds2 I went into hospital to be induced was told I was already in labour and 4 cm dilated. I honestly ha? no idea. They broke my waters and ds2 was born 45 minutes later

2nd labour was half as long the first. The second stage was a lot quicker!

MissCalamity · 30/06/2014 18:19

Yes, mine was.

Waters broke at 6am with DC1, contractions started getting really bad at 11am, started pushing about 1pm and DC1 was born at 1.40pm

With DC2, waters broke at 4am & was in quite a lot of pain already, pushing started at 6am & DC2 born 16 minutes later.

I would ring your DM as soon as you're aware of contractions!

It was much more intense with DC2 as it was so quick!

Thank you all for your lovely replies, and taking time out to reply! oh goodness sounds like it really is so so much quicker 2nd time. I'm secretly hoping it all starts while DD1 is at nursery that way DM will have some time to collect and we can just make our way to hospital. I keep waking with tightenings but I'm just assuming they are the BH's rather than the real thing.

Hope it's not too quick!

I think you need a friend locally who can look after your DD whilst your mum is on the way. Even if you just ask someone as a backup.

My second labour was 50 minutes start to finish. If DD hadn't been at nursery so we could leave when we did DS would have been born in the car.

OMgoodness!! Just been to midwife and she has said with the uncomfortableness and the shooting pains I keep getting up my spine and babies head is 4/5 it could be any day. She's given me an appointment for 2weeks when I will be 40+2 but doubts I will need it. Lots of questions as to how early DD was (she was born at 38/39 weeks) I'm a little worried she's trying to tell me something without saying - your about to go into labour. She's advised me to rest as much as possible......and to make sure I'm organised. I wish they would just say without skirting round it.

Good luck! If it helps both my midwifed told me they wouldn't be seeing me again at 39weeks ad both saw me another 3 times.

My plan if I went into labour and my ds1 was with me was to leave him with a neighbour and head to the hospital ASAP letting grandparents collect him from there, if neighbour were out he was coming to the hospital with me and grandparents would collect him there.

Hope it all goes well, unhelpfully I have a friend who called her childminder to collect her eldest when she went into labour, and when the childminder arrived she delivered the new baby on the bathroom floor. Her dh missed it all.
