Did your bump feel different/smaller after waters had gone?

I'm currently 37+5 with DC2. With DC1 my waters went when I was about 8cm and was in the pool.

But last night I woke at 4am desperate for a wee, was on the sofa downstairs but managed to get upstairs to the loo (just!) at which point a torrent of wee (fluid??!) came out-utterly disproportionate to the amount I'd drunk in the preceeding hours as had barely had a sip of water since midnight and had wee'd at 1am and 2am so wondering if some of it could be waters? Between 4-5.30am I had what felt like braxton Hicks or maybe v early contractions though all died off now.

Just a bit confused as my waters only went when I was about 8cm and in the pool last time so no experience to compare with!

I know I probably just need to wait and see but have planned to go swimming with DS this morning and be out this afternoon so wondering if I need to change plans at all?

This happened to me last week. 2 prior births, waters went well unto labour. This one started with a massive gush on the loo!

Call your hospital - they might well want to check you out. Mine were full of meconium so I needed to stay in and have close monitoring until DS arrived. If your waters are clear you will likely be sent home to wait for things to start. Good luck! You'll soon have a snuggly newborn ( mine is 5 days old!)

I would call your mw, it sounds like you need checking.

PotatoPolly · 26/06/2014 08:04

If you put a pad on, if it's your waters they'll have a really distinctive smell! But definitely call your MW to be checked too Smile

No differnce in bump size but I would not swim in a public pool if they have gone personally . I would get checked over first.

Thanks all. Phoned triage who said put a pad on, carry on as normal and ring back in couple of hours but don't take DS swimming. So will just have to wait and see-would be v happy for things to start so here's hoping!!

Yep bump got smaller and could see the baby's outline very clearly, student midwife checked my bump and admitted she cheated because she could see where he was and how he was laying Smile I don't know if it made a difference to the size but my back waters went first, trickling out for ages then my front ones went in a gush.
Go get checked just in case I wouldn't want to risk it especially swimming

Hope things get started soon Smile

Congrats Everton and yes to things starting soon hopefully (rather over this being pregnant thing now!). We're planning a home birth and spent yesterday evening testing out setting up the pool-maybe baby got the hint :) here's hoping!

How are you doing now? (And yes my bump looked smaller somehow after my waters broke in a gush - but contractions started within 30mins.)

Nothing happening :( have had several unhelpful comments from DM who has been staying (she's great generally just not so helpful with this situation and wasn't great when I was in labour with DS either!) ... Hoping that now she has gone and we have the house back to ourselves I might relax again so that things have a chance to move forward - if indeed anything did start happening last night iyswim... Back to the waiting game!
