I had my baby 3 weeks ago and I'm just wondering when I'll get my first period?

Congratulations!

Somewhere between 28 days and 4 years (ish).

Are you breastfeeding?

How long is a piece of string?! Mine came about 16 weeks and didn't breastfeed.

MsBug · 22/06/2014 20:42

I breastfed and it took a year.

WaxyDaisy · 22/06/2014 20:43

Oh yeah, should answer for me personally, over 4 babies, it ranged between 1yr 9 days, and just shy of 2 yrs. they were just breasted for 6 months and then largely on demand after that, (though with 2 of them I was working part time by 9 months, so daytime feeds less, and periods came back sooner).

A close friend exclusively breastfed her two and got periods back at 4 weeks on the dot both times. That is less usual when breastfeeding at all.

Mine came after three months and I was breastfeeding - I felt a bit cheated!

No I've stopped breast feeding now .. Just a little confused because I want to go bk on the contraceptive pill but that entails me taking it on the first day of my next period

Most likely to come in a few weeks if you're not bf'ing. Congrats on the arrival of your little one!

thatwhichwecallarose · 22/06/2014 20:53

I waited til my period arrived before taking pill (because I wanted to be sure I was back to normal first) but you don't have to. Just remember that you won't be protected for 7 days though.

Roundbales · 22/06/2014 20:54

I didn't have one Shock

DS was conceived! Grin

Casmama · 22/06/2014 20:56

According to this you can start on day 21 after your baby is born and be protected immediately or any day afterwards and just need to use an additional method of contraception for 7 days. No need to wait for a period.
