being induced and giving birth in hospital?

Could someone tell me what this actually entails? Do you go on a labour ward? Is this literally a room of beds of other people having babies around you? What happens?

You usually start off In the post natal ward with other women being induced. Then when you are in established labour (usually around 4Cm dilated) they will move you to the labour ward which is all private rooms.
It will vary by hospital and your individual circumstances but that's pretty standard

I went straight in to the delivery suite to be induced when I arrived. Guess it varies from hospital to hospital.

I went straight into the delivery ward. Room of my own which had the birth gone smoothly I would have delivered and recovered in too. As it was I moved into theatre and then into a separate recovery room.

Off into postnatal four hours after dd was born and happened to get ny own room (rather than a four bed room).

Oh and unless baby arrives by surprise, you wont give birth in a room with other labouring women.

I was at Northampton General (if that makes a difference) I was put in a room on labour ward with 4/6 beds where I was induced and stayed there after (pessary has to be in for 24 hours) everyone had curtains drawn and it was very private.

I spent the day with my friend who was allowed in while DDs DF was still at work. (Pat leave not yet started)

Woke up to contractions at 5am. Wandered around with my mum and had lots of baths.

24 hours after pessary had been in, it was taken out in the delivery ward, waters broken manually etc and I stayed there on the bed until my c section at 1am.

Started off in a ward with 4 of us in a room. After examination and them deciding I was already 4cm moved to labour ward to a private room. Gave birth here, was moved to theatre for repairs, then up to antenatal ward which was 4 beds to a room.

You can ask your midwife what the room/procedures are at your hospital.

I started off in a ward with several beds, when I needed to go onto the drip because things still were not moving I was moved to a private room on the labour ward. The drip really got things going (and rammped the pain up).

I had one MW who was in and out of the room to begin with and who then stayed with me once delivery was imminent. It was all ok. DS was monitored throughout but I was still able to stay active, afterwards he was passed up to me for cuddles and weighed etc after we had some time with him.

Mine was exactly what chopsypie said. Was with 3 other women with a midwife for the whole room. All internal examinations and pessarys done with all men (apart from partner) being kicked out the room. I was moved into a private room on post natal ward at about 10pm as contractions had well and truly kick in by before going to labour ward at 3.30am. DD was born at 4.30am!

so when your contractions kick in they move you somewhere private but before then you are usually on a ward, albeit with a curtain round you for privacy?

I wouldn't say that. My contractions started at 5am. I'm fairly certain I didn't move wards until they took the pessary out.

Some peoples labours moved a little quicker than snails pace tho

But I very much had privacy. I went on walks to keep contractions coming and had a big private bathroom to myself

To my knowledge no one else was moved just because their contractions had kicked in, certainly no one moved before me, but I was being sick a lot and making a fair bit of noise so they may have moved me for the other patients benefit rather than my own given it was getting late. Honestly though I felt I had all the privacy I needed even before I was moved.

I started off in ante-natal ward (4 bed ward), had pessary put in there.

Once a room on the labour ward became available, I was moved in there and put on a drip to get the contractions started. Can't remember timings exactly but it was somewhere between 6 - 12 hrs after the pessary was put in.

All the rooms on the labour ward were private.
