The dreaded latent phase - day 3

Isabelleforyourbicycle · 31/05/2014 15:22

Sweep on Tuesday by big handed consultant.
Bloody show Thursday and every morning since..today being Saturday.
On off contractions which either stop of their own accord or when I lay down

I'm in the limbo land of latent labour aren't I? Please tell me this will end soon, I'm nearly 40 weeks, dc2. I could cry with frustration.

Any tips on how to get latent to move to active or is it just a case of waiting and sucking it up?

I reckon any rest you get will help. You've done the right thing leaving.

I used to live in London, now in bucks, so not far, still come down to town a lot as I miss it.

Maybe when you go back they will be on top of all the mess and craziness and it will be a calmer environment. I can't wait to hear of your birth announcement, focus on the end result!!

And eat some of your cervix bread and whoopie pies. Keeping my fingers crossed for you tonight. Xx

try to get some rest but also in a loved up dark way. Cuddles from your husband, that sort of lovely warm loving but not necessarily the sex bit.
If they haven't broken your waters you can stay at home for a long time. Wishing you lots of luck and a whole heap of strength and energy.

Hey ladies!!!
Penelope was born at 21.54 on the 4th June after 39 mins in established labour weighing 4.4kg (9lbs 12oz!!) no time for drugs!
What a bloody shock that was Shock
So relieved it is over. She's so lovely.
She's covered in down and chunky as can be. Her nails are like talons so I suspect she has been well and truly cooked! I'm doing really well. A little shaky but on a bit of a high. Better get some sleep now, hopefully going home in the morning xx

Hazchem · 05/06/2014 05:40

My goodness! That is a super fast birth. Congratulations. I'm very happy for you. It's a lovely name. Rest up and have lots of wonderful cuddles.

Isabelleforyourbicycle · 05/06/2014 08:17

Wowsers! That was super quick! Lovely to hear news of the safe arrival of Penelope! lovely name and a good weight (I love a chunky baby).

So glad it didn't drag on in the end in that awful ward. You'll be home before you know it and it's a beautiful sunny day!

Now enjoy those newborn cuddles, and some Flowers and Wine to celebrate xx

Congratulations. Lovely name - it was on our list for a girl (but this one was a boy)

Nunyabiz · 05/06/2014 20:45

Thanks all! Smile We are thrilled.
Luckily we decided to leave home for the hospital when we did as I was only having very mild tightenings until we walked into the hospital... Got out of the lift and my waters broke. It all just spiralled like crazy from there!
The midwives were not expecting me so i unfortunately had to labour (very loudly) on the ward for about 20 mins before anyone came to check me. DH had to call them 3 times. My MW seemed very relaxed until another MW checking on someone else heard me and came to the rescue.
They literally rolled me into the birthing suite and she came out. No time for pain relief (not for lack of asking... There was a lot of colourful language). I was in disbelief when I felt her head come down. Never in a million years did I expect that! She didn't even need much pushing...
Anyway got no sleep on the ward as it was full and if Penny wasn't crying, someone else was. Then apparently the cleaner decided a nice vocal rendition was what we all wanted at 6am Hmm oh and when you finally start drifting off the dinner lady things that no- telling her what you want from
The menu is a great reason to wake you up.
Then of course the influx of other people's visitors all talking at the top of their lungs... Not like I've been awake all night after giving birth or anything Confused
So was happy to leg it out of there at the earliest possible!
DD1 is absolutely in love with her baby sister. Keeps asking to hold her and wanted to sleep in with us tonight (bless her) was very hard to say no but let her have a long cuddle and she 'read' Penny about 5 books hehe.
Anyway, I'm wishing you, Isabelle, a very smooth arrival of your bubba hopefully not too far off and will check back here to hear how you go xx

moomin35 · 06/06/2014 08:38

fab nunyabiz - how far over your due date was baby penelope in the end?

Nunyabiz · 07/06/2014 13:42

8 days in the end Moomin. Which I suppose isn't too long but felt like an eternity. Was induced due to previous big baby and some complications surrounding that, and predicted big baby (although DD1 was 10lb 5oz, so DD2 is a little squidge at 9lb12oz)...
I must say with every passing day I was freaking out at the prospect of her fattening up more!!! Lol.

moomin35 · 08/06/2014 16:15

Haha know how you felt- I'm 8 days overdue today, feels like forever and life is just on hold. Sooo frustrating!

Nunyabiz · 08/06/2014 18:22

Ohhh Confused I'm not jealous. I loooove not being pregnant. Some people think pregnancy is the best time. I feel like I have just got out of jail! Been overdoing it a bit actually and should be taking it easy. I just love having my freedom back! I can bend over! Lay on my tummy! Eat yummy food without throwing it back up!!

But milk came in yesterday and today I'm in agony.
Dd2 was soooo hungry first 2 days and couldn't get enough... Past 2 days she's just slept continuously and I need her to wake up and drain meeeeee Confused
Do you have an induction date Moomin or are you just going to see how it goes?

moomin35 · 08/06/2014 20:21

They said they'll induce me next weekend. Really don't want it to come to that though so hoping something happens naturally before then Hmm
Oh god I can imagine, I've found being pregnant quite debilitating in lots of ways!

McFox · 08/06/2014 21:27

Congratulations Nun, and what a lovely name Smile

I'm getting induced tomorrow, this is one stubborn baby...

moomin35 · 08/06/2014 22:09

Aw good luck mcfox, will you let me know how you get on, being induced next week too Hmm How far along are you?

McFox · 08/06/2014 22:30

Thanks Moomin, yes I will :)

I'm 40+3 tomorrow but I have gestational diabetes so I'm lucky that they've let me get this far. I'm 3cm dilated and the baby is fully engaged as of yesterday, so I'm hoping that they might just need to break my waters - fingers crossed!

Nunyabiz · 08/06/2014 23:46

Woohoo exciting times mcfox!!
All the best! Will be thinking of you.

Isabelleforyourbicycle · 09/06/2014 16:46

My baby has arrived! 4 days over in the end of all that latent phrase dragging on. I went into labour at lunchtime on Saturday, held out at home until early evening, when I got to the hospital was 7 cm dilated! He arrived via lots of gas and air, yelling and a little help from forceps as he was back to back..7lb 8 and just beautiful.

I was home the day after, a bit battered and bruised. He is feeding well and we are all delighted.

Nunybiz, penguin and hazchem, thanks for all the posts. Xx

Congratulations! Long latent stages are horrible so good to hear you had a good birth at the end of it!

Nunyabiz · 09/06/2014 20:38

Oh how fab! Well done Isabelle! Enjoy your gorgeous newborn!
X Thanks

McFox · 10/06/2014 21:22

And we have another baby! Ruaridh, our handsome little boy, was born at 5.24am this morning, weighing 7lbs 1oz! We are feeling very lucky (and very tired!)

I managed 7.5hrs of drug free hypnobirthing then everything went wrong very quickly, and I ended up with an emergency section under a general - all very scary but we have a perfect little boy to show for it, so I'm happy nonetheless Smile

Hazchem · 10/06/2014 23:12

Isabelleforyourbicycle Congratulations. So pleased for you.

McFox Congratulations. I love the name. If you need some help processing the birth don't hesitate to ask either you midwife,or PALS or there are some great support organizations in the UK.

McFox · 11/06/2014 03:10

Congratulations Isabelle!

Thanks Hazchem, that advice might come in handy.

Nunyabiz · 11/06/2014 04:15

Wow well done mcfox and congratulations!
That must have been very scary for you mcfox. You have been through a lot so I hope you take good care of yourself x Thanks

moomin35 · 11/06/2014 11:14
