Induce

Hi,
I am 34 weeks pregnant, but have been told that my baby is the size of a 38 week old (they say I have my dates wrong, but I know I haven't!) - so I am due to be induced! Does anyone else have this experience?

Have you asked for a second opinion? Maybe get a scan privately and have them take some measurements?

Goodness, that is a hell of mistake to be 6 weeks out on your dates!!!

Jain, who told you this? I ask as I had lots of scans with DD and they were not hugely helpful. My consultant also said (in the absence of any contra indications) that babies were better in than out until 40 weeks anyway because of maturation of the lungs. So even if your dates are out, why are they not waiting another 2 weeks?

I would ask your MW to make an appt with the consultant to discuss. If it was the consultant who told you this, then I'd ask for another appt to go through why s/he thinks the dates are wrong and why you need to be induced early.

My consultant looked at the 12 week scan stuff when we were working out my dates (at about 30 weeks as I was so huge). She said all babies are the same size at 12 weeks so if there was a discrepancy there that was a good indicator. I was induced before my body was really ready and it wasn't great. I would push for another opinion asap.

Agree with M2FD. It seems awfully early. I'd insist on a second opinion. Even if you are 38 weeks, I would imagine they'd leave you until about 41+5 for an induction (assuming all is well), which would give you almost 4 weeks. 37-38 weeks would be sooooo much better than 34.
