can someone explain consultant's notes please?

I saw the consultant yesterday, on my due date. i was a little overwhelmed as i asked for a sweep and he did a stretch there and then (3cm?) which threw me a bit - it was quite painful - so i wasnt really listening properly
Apparently, my cervix is "soft and fully effaced" - does this mean it is ready?

Yep, this will start soon! Effaced means your cervix is thinning out, it now only nead to dilate until about 10cm.

My MW did a sweep for me and found out I was 3cm dilated. DS2 was born about 24 hours later

thanks girls. the niggles have clamed down a bit now but will go for a walk and then bounce on my ball if it looks like its ready!
