Hi I am new to mumsnet. I am 39+2 with first and had show yesterday, was very excited and thought yay here we go. Called midwife and she said it could still be weeks away. Have had no other signs yet. How long did you wait after show until labor started??? Thank you

My contractions started about an hour after my show, so I'm not going to be much help, I'm afraid! But I don't know anyone who waited weeks! Generally, I think it tends to be a day or 2, but I s'pose everyone's different, so it varies.

Shouldn't be too long now, though - so good luck!

Mine was 5 days. Was told it was fairly lenghty time.

carol3 · 25/08/2006 07:03

only had a show with first labour started about 8 hours later.

Kelnz4 · 25/08/2006 08:11

Yeah I thought 2 weeks was to the extreme. Very excited. I have been getting quite agitated as we have 2 other friends due at same time. They have both had their babies now. One last week and the other one today. So hopefully over the weekend I can have my baby. Fingers crossed.

I had a show at 8am the day I was due to be induced, as 11 days late, and I hadn't gone into labour by the time I was induced at 9pm that night.

olivo · 25/08/2006 09:27

Hi

I got my show and straight after my waters broke with contractions every two minutes. My baby was born four hours later. The show, unfortunately doesn't mean that you will be going into labour straight away

mumoftwoangels · 25/08/2006 11:17

It was 1 week with my sister in law. for me it was with my waters (2.5hrs before the birth) you can never tell.

Hulan · 25/08/2006 11:24

Well, you can rest assured that things are moving along. Your little one will come along when the time is right for them. It's nice and cosy in there

Hulan · 25/08/2006 11:26

mumoftwoangels, was that 2.5hrs with your first baby?

mumoftwoangels · 25/08/2006 11:47

yes. I was in hospital with any way with pre eclampsia, and at 7 am i was checked as i had a few aches and pains during the night, but no dilation. At 9 am this gooey mess appeared and at 11.30am there she was!

mumoftwoangels · 25/08/2006 11:49

Just to make you all sick, with my dd2 i woke up with some twinges, rang the midwife who felt with my history it was best to get of to hospita. I arrived at 5.30 am she was born 25 min later. I was 6cm when i arived. They recorded 2nd stage at 3 mins!!! I am not having any more as with my record i am due one long labour to redress the balance!

mumoftwoangels · 25/08/2006 11:54

Kelnz4 just remember it takes as long as it takes! Try to keep relaxed and Good luck!

FoghornLeghorn · 25/08/2006 11:57

Kelnz4 · 26/08/2006 22:43

Hi Thanks for all your replies. Still nothing yet. Few aches and pains, and I think ooohhh is this the start of something? then nothing. I just have to be patient (extremely hard!).
