About 4 hours ago I began having occasional sharp twinges very low down, and since then I've been having very intense Braxton Hicks- all less than 5 minutes apart, not painful but quite uncomfortable! There is slight pain very low down with the contractions, (more like strong discomfort) and it's beginning to travel into my lower back too, also my bump changes into the craziest shapes with each contraction, it's quite surreal!!
What do you think...?

It sounds like it could be the early stages. Go to bed and get some sleep just in case. You will need all the rest you can get.

Good luck!! :)

I did go to sleep and apart from a few uncomfortable twinges that woke me up it all seems to have stopped for now...

I had that happen on and off again for about a week before my daughter came. By the time I was in labor, I wasn't sure until one of the contractions almost brought me to my knees. Then I was barely 3cm dilated by the time I got to the hospital. Had to wait it out for a few hours. The different for me was that the real contractions hurt my back and I could feel it in my spine, I felt nothing in the front. The prelabor ones hurt the front of me, but it wasn't intense enough to go to the hospital.

37 weeks is full term, so your body is gearing up for baby day! :) You might come early! Mine came at 38 weeks.
