Hi, I just wondered if anyone had got pregnant a few month following on from a C-Section? I seem to receive conflicting advice, my GP didn't seem concerned that i'm not trying not preventing but my MW said that falling pregnant so soon can cause horrific problems. I had a section on 4th Marh and really want 2 close together. Thank you x

Personally I'd wait until you're 6months postnatal before trying.

I became pg 8 weeks after my emcs, had spoken to my consultant before who had said it was fine as I would be having another csection anyway.

If you do become pg quickly you will probably find they advise another cs as complications can accure during vbac if you have a small gap

A friend of mine had an oops and conceived her next baby 7 months after her first (delivered by CSec). She has a successful VBAC (and with her 3rd a couple of years later).

The problem is the strength of your internal scar. HCPs seem a lot less worried after 6 months, but usually advise a year to be on the safe side.

I was pregnant 6 months after my 2nd csection (happy accident :-)). Had no problems and recovered very well. Having 2 dcs 15 months apart is hard though, very hard.

I got pregnant when DC1 was 4 months old. I'd had a EMCS with DC1 last march and DC2 is due in less than 2 weeks. I've been consultant led and he is very positive about a VBAC, they will just monitor and keep an eye in labour in case of scar rupture but I think the chance is something like 0.35%?

Not me personally but my friend got pregnant after her emergency c-section after 3 month and her scar burst when her bump started growing caused her horrific problems she ended up losing baby and she's not allowed to try for atleast another 3 years because it's caused her major problems .. This improbably rare tho?

My sister in law has had 3 sections and 1 vaginal births her 3rd section was an emergency section because her scar couldn't cope with her pushing the baby out and was going to burst she said it was burning and stuff there was 6 years between her 1st section and her 2nd and she still had problems with it

Thank you ladies. My GP isn't concerned about us falling pregnant as the scar and everything is really good so I guess we will just see how it goes. I was hoping to fall pregnant when DS1 is 6months isn so should give me plenty of time to heal completely. Didn't have an easy time conceiving with him so reluctant to prevent x

Just to add another perspective, I spoke to my obstetrician when my DS was about 6 months old about getting pregnant again after my c section. I thought he would say to get going straight away as we have a very difficult history (5 PGs, 1 surviving baby, with a high background risk - 1 in 4 -of future losses), plus I was 38. However he very strongly advised waiting until 12 months, even given my history and age, due to the increased risk of still birth.
