How do you get home from hospital without your own car?

Hello, this is probably a silly question, but as a first time mum I can't figure out the answer!

We don't have our own car, or any family nearby who could give us a lift. I know we can get a taxi home, but then how do we ensure the baby is safe? I've never used a car seat, will we be able to figure out how to safely strap it into a taxi on the spot?

Has anyone else faced this problem?

When you buy a seat the shop show you how to fit it. Make sure you do it lots when they're there to show you.

I don't have a car, neither of us drive. We had a car seat that we took to the hospital with us. Before D Day we looked up on YouTube and used the paper instructions to figure it all out. When it came to leaving hospital we managed to fix it all in the car no problem. The taxi driver also knew what he was doing so could have helped if we needed.

We took a taxi and practiced fitting the seat in a friend's car beforehand. Maybe a neighbour would let you do this? This time I intend to horrify the midwives by walking as it's only ten mins!

The mothercare near me has a seat with seatbelt you can try baby car seats in, you could use that to practice or any friends or neighbours.
If I were to go into hospital this time round, I'd probably walk too though as I live 10 mins away

Thanks everyone, I think I've roped a neighbour and their car in for the visit to mothercare, then hopefully we'll be pros by the time it comes to the real taxi trip!

Most taxi firms have their own car seats. Just ring round a few

We live in London and booked a black cab. Put dd1 in the buggy and the buggy in the black cab as you are able to do that in London.

It was all pretty surreal. First time I used the buggy, I was putting it in a car. We have lots of photos!
