Hi there, I was just wondering what you think of this. When I had my dd I had to have an emergency cs as she was breeched and the doc couldn't get the epidural in place a my vertabrea were to close together. I am really worried about giving birth this time round and need some reassurance please.

Oh, sounds similar to me. I had an emergency section for DD who all wrapped up in the cord. It was a failes induction (why do they not look to see where the cord is when first time mum is 2 weeks overdue and then proceed to induce?!?!?!). Anyway, so when number 2 came along, I shouted from the roof tops that I wanted a planned section. It was soooooooooo much nicer. I think if you've had a previous section and you want another you should have it. However, if you don't want, then that wish should also be honoured.

Do you know what you want to do?

I think after having a traumatic first time round its fairly normal to be thinking that it would be nice to have everything all planned out for next time. I know that if I were to have anymore that I would feel the same after DSs drama of a birth.

There are always going to be arguments for and against such an emotive subject but I would say discuss all your options with your m/w and if you feel you want an elective then do not be put off.

pmoh, if your dd was breech why was the cs not elective? Did they not spot the breech position beforehand?

What are your thoughts? Which way would you like to go???

I had an emergency cs first time round after a very traumatic labour, and will have no hesitation in requesting an elective cs this time. But I know other women in my position who have wanted to try for a VBAC - some have achieved it, others haven't, and some regretted the decision afterwards, others were thrilled with it. So it's not a clearcut situation.

I had the same problem, had a very bad labour 10 years ago, 28hrs ended up with an emergency cs, this time around was convinced I would labour well and have a wonderful birth!! yeah right. In the end, waters went labour was everywhere and I went for an elective. A completley different experience, my partner was there, I got to see my beautiful baby straight away, to be honest after 2 cs, Im just glad i get to come home with my babies, cause god knows their are many who dont

My waters broke went into labour and went to hospital. Was ckecked by trainee mf who told me after examination that I was haveing a big baby. After that there was a change of shifts and a new mw came on duty, who examined me and found that dd was in breech postion. A mobile scan confirmed breech postion and then they whisked down to op room.

I wouldnt mind a normal labour if I could have epi but I don't think I can. I'm in Ireland by the way.

Why can't you have an epi?

pmoh · 15/08/2006 12:47

Apparently my vertabrea are to close together. On dd the doc tried twice to get it in and wouldnt work.

Sounds like an incompetant anaesthetist to me. Sorry, but I'd ask again, unless of course I wanted the section anyway.

You need to go to your midwife and explain your fears, go through the senarios that you feel may occur, either breach, large baby, full moon whatever, and ask her the usual procedure in these cases. If your still fearful of labour without epi, perfectly normal, I was. I was going for active birth due to spd, so epi out of question, as soon as they said induction, with no chance of epi I freaked, cs please (No epi due to restricted movement, had to birth on all 4s to limit damage to pelvis)
