Please excuse my naivety but after the op when still in hospital how do you change your pads?!

When you first give birth you will be on a kind of a sheet, which the nurses will change for you as needed until you are on your feet. After which you will be expected to do it yourself. Hope that helps Smile

You can bend - it's ridiculously stiff and sore but you are still capable of sitting (slowly) onto a toilet and changing your pads - if you picture changing a pad on the toilet, you don't actually have to bend very far. In fact, you can really do anything you need to, just veeeeery veeeery slowly. And as Phantom says, those first few hours where the spinal is wearing off the nurses will do everything do you.

If you really can't sit then the nurses will help you.

dh pulled my pants up and down and helped me...I couldn't bend enough Smile

When you go to the loo, hold onto the grab rails or the loo roll holder as you bend. Then change your pad just before you get up. I found that the least painful way of doing it.

You go to the toilet and change them. They have an incontinence pad underneath you immediately post op but I had my catheter out about 4hrs post op each time so just changed the pad while weeing.

I had my catheter in / couldn't move from the bed for about 30 hours, so obviously the midwives did this initially (I had a pad thing underneath me to start with, then I think I had pants and a pad on. I think - you know, I can't quite remember). Don't be shy - that's their job, and everyone will have seen everything by this point.
