Waxing

I'm booked in for an ELCS on Tuesday morning & just back from my last midwife appointment in which she has told me no shaving or waxing now. Aaah, can't believe it. I've been holding off to have this done as close as I can & now she's telling me no. Something to do with the Iskenderun of infection. I'm booked into get waxed tomorrow morning. Should I go ahead with it??

I wouldn't personally. The reason that they don't routinely shave you these days is that the tiny micro cuts increase infection risk.

Oh, sorry, posted too soon. Maybe just do the top bit that they might need to shave for the op and give it a trim of you want?

That's funny, my section is next Wednesday and also fresh back from my last MW appt - she told me to go ahead and do the pubic hair removal myself if I wanted! I'm having my regular Brazilian wax on Saturday.

I was told to do it the day before. It was absolutely fine.

Well I changed my appointment to tonight & got it done. I had too for my own piece of mind. Fingers crossed ill be ok X

I cannot believe the differing advice given to mums in pregnancy. At my pre-op (the day before) I was told to shave at least an inch below bikini line or they would do it for me. I bought a new razor so that I knew it was clean. I had no infection afterwards.

Yikes, no one told me anything about this, whether to shave or not!! I got some veet (having twins so bump is so big I can see a thing down there, don't want to risk a razor!) just to tidy up a bit down there, think I'll just leave the rest of it to them, out of sight out of mind lol! :)

I can't believe the difference of opinion either. I've asked two friends who had ELCS. One wasn't told anything & went all waxed & one was told defo not.

Clipping is better than shaving for infection prevention immediately prior to the op but I would imagine that waxing with a decent period in between to heal would be best of all? Good luck with your birth OP

I asked and was told it didn't matter. She said I could do it myself or they would trim what they needed to.

I looked at this and new advice is that you should do any hair removal at least two weeks before a CS to reduce possible infection.

2 weeks? It would need doing again after 2 weeks!
