Sweeps

I'm 40+6 today with DC1 and the baby is showing no signs of coming any time soon :(

I really, really want a home birth and we'll start to get twitchy about that if I get to 40+10.

My MW tried to do a sweep at 40+1 but couldn't as my cervix wasnt in the right position. Since then we'vetried everything to encourage the baby out but its obvs as lazy as we are and is staying put :(

Should I ask for another sweep today or wait it out a couple more days until my next appt? I'm thinking there's no harm in asking??

Anyone had any look with sweeps moving things along?

Yes, with DD2 I had a sweep at 40+10 and she was born that night. I was planning a home birth so really wanted it to work!

I had two sweeps two days apart, 40+7 and 40+9. My waters broke hours after the second. I do think that they both got things going. I would definitely ask for another if I was you.

My hospital doesn't offer sweeps until you're actually overdue (>41 weeks), but I think waiting an extra week probably gets more favourable cervix conditions. Hopefully, you'll be in luck this time.

I had two sweeps after my due date, neither did anything and dd came along at 40+11.

I would ask for another as it's 5 days. My midwife told me they can sweep every 48 hours, not before. Have you got a birthing ball? May be worth sitting and bouncing, I found this really made a difference with DC3.... And my thighs got a much needed workout!

Thanks for the replies, managed to get an apt for 2 for asweep so fingers crossed it does something!

You can get them in tesco for about a tenner, fingers crossed for succesful sweep!

Mine started a few hours after my second sweep....

With ds1 I had a sweep at 11am at 40+4 then went into labour the following morning at 5.30am, so really do think it got things started!
