When will my ELCS be booked?

I'm seeing the consultant in three weeks to book in my elcs but when are they typically done? 38/39/40 weeks? A consultant from a different hospital who did my rectocele repair 3 years ago said a future section would be done at 38 weeks. I have a feeling this consultant will push for it to be close to my due date. I'm at Kingston hospital if it makes a difference.

Normally 39 weeks in most hospitals these days, but maybe if you have had repair surgery and they want to decrease the chances of you going into labour they might be open to earlier? They don't like to do earlier if they can help it because of possible issues for the baby, but it's always a balance with your own health.

Sorry, I don't know specifically about Kingston.

I had the same question a few weeks ago. I'm at St. Peter's in Chertsey and booked in 2 weeks at 38+6 for my 3rd cs (and I've had 3 separate abdominal surgeries on top of that). I think 39 weeks is fairly standard.

39+3 for me think 39 is standard now as it is better for baby they are less likely to have breathing problems than those born at 38 weeks.

Thanks. I'm going to ask for 38+3 (a Friday) otherwise 38+6 (Monday) as pretty sure they don't do elcs on weekends.

Mine is due to be booked for 39 wks: I was told that they don't usually book ELCS any earlier, as waiting until 39 weeks tends to have the best outcomes in terms of the baby's lung function. Mind you, I'm 36+2, and still don't have a date yet: probably won't have one until a week tomorrow!

I was 39+1 and 39+2.

The first time it was the Monday after 39 weeks.

The second time I was given the choice of three dates.

I had one in 2012 at 38+3 but this time they won't do it before 39 weeks as it's the new policy. I was offered 39 weeks exactly but as this will be a Thursday and I don't want to risk being in over a weekend again, it'll be 39+4. Next Monday actually!

PenguinsEatSpinach · 18/02/2014 19:13

Yes, although I don't have personal experience, from what I've read on here lots of places are getting stricter about 39+ because of the lung maturity issues. A friend had, oh goodness, what is it called? The thing with too much fluid, and even then they were reluctant to do 38+4

Tea1Sugar · 18/02/2014 19:16

True about avoiding a weekend. 38+6 or 39+0 will be preferable then as it's a Monday/Tuesday :)
