EMCS - placental abruption.

Baby was born early yesterday morn at 37+2 by category 1 CS. All very scary.

Thankfully, baby is fine. I lost 2 litres of blood and need to stay in until tomorrow

I'm in a lot of pain and alternating between morphine and paracetamol for it and have been on my back in bed since.

Apparently, they'll get me up today to have a walk/shower, etc.

I'm terrified that I'm going to tear.

How long after your CS were you able to stand/walk/function again?

Firstly congratulations!

That must have all been quite a shock.

I had a fairly straightforward emcs (cat 2) & no huge blood loss, so no doubt my recovery was quicker but dd was born at 10.29am on Friday, my catheter was taken out about 7am the next morning & I got out of bed for the loo & a shower when dh arrived at about 8ish. Able to move around okish from then on (though cautiously!). They did say the best thing was to mobilise & keep moving as much as possible, but also bearing in mind you'll only be able to do about half as much as you think you will.

Stayed in 1 more night & got home about 4pm on the Sunday - Sunday night / mon am were tough as I only had paracetamol & ibuprofen & I needed something stronger (my gp gave me diclofenac on the Monday) but I didn't actually need it after that day.

Had an amber EMCS a fortnight ago. Three nights in hospital. 16.44 delivery and by 10am the next day catheter was out and was in the shower - holding onto the shower rail for dear life and not standing up straight. Throughout the day encouraged to walk around and movement got a lot easier. But no significant blood loss. Scar area sore 2 weeks post section, taking paracetamol & ibruprofen for pain relief thrice daily.

Well, it's been 3 days. Yesterday, they dropped the morphine, so it's now paracetamol and ibuprofen. I feel about the same - was hoping I'd have started to feel better movement wise, but understand things usually get worse before better!

I'm being discharged today but LO is jaundiced so needs double light therapy, poor soul.

Oh wu that sounds scary. I remember you from Jan 2013 postnatal, must be tough with the older one too. No experience of CS but DD had phototherapy. It was tough. Will you be able to stay?

I was discharged yesterday, but they kept LO in. I have a room here now, so I can stay overnight with her.

She was initally on double lamp, took her off one lamp last night, but her levels crept up, but only a small amount. She's been off the lamps all day today and they'll do blood test tonight and take it from there.

How long did your DD take to get better with the phototherapy?

It's very difficult - esp since I feel I'm neglecting the boy at home (and still in dreadful pain with CS scar and tum), but DP has been brilliant , thankfully.

Awh glad that you can stay close though it must be horrible being away from DS. DD was born v late Thursday, started phototherapy Saturday lunchtime and was off Sunday lunchtime. Levels were fine from then and we were both discharged together on Monday (I had some bleeding issues, though nothing like 2l ). She was borderline for treatment in the first place but it took a good while to improve at all. I found it absolutely awful having to leave her in the incubator and was very stressed about bf (which was fine as soon as she was out).

Glad your DP has been good and I'm sure DS will be fine, and just old enough to take a brief interest in his little sister hopefully!

Do you know what you'll call her?

DD1 was readmitted with toxic levels of jaundice at day 10 (we probably shouldn't have been discharged, she was born at 36+2) when she was hypothermic and floppy.

She had 2 lamps and a UV pad under her and it took just over 48 hours for her to get her levels down. We love UV therapy.

Don't feel guilty about anything else. Having a baby is one of those adventurous rides that once you're on it you have to get to the end, no matter how many loop-the-loops are thrown at you. Hang on and you'll get there.

(prem and jaundiced DD1 just had her 5th birthday and is amazing - healthy, tall, bright willfull, stubborn)
