Timing of induction?

Hi folks, just wondering about people's experiences of being induced for post dates when everything is else is normal? I know the nice guidelines say induction should be offered from 41 weeks, but locally they wait til 41+5 -42 weeks and sometimes a day or two later if the unit is full.. If it comes to it, I'm keen to be induced sooner rather than later - partly because iVe read it reduces the risk of c section and meconium aspiration, and partly cause I'm super impatient. I'm aware some women don't want induction at all, and be glad to hear some peoples experiences and opinions. Thanks

I was petrified of induction mainly due to the drip making things more intense and how I would manage. In the end I went into labour naturally but was put on the drip when contractions slowed-wasn't nearly as bad as I expected especially once I had an epidural-I realised I was far more frightened of not knowing what to expect than actually going through it!

I was induced with DD1 due to high BP. Let's just say it was 4 days of alternate hell and boredom. The drugs hit you like a steam train and I will admit to being very, very grateful for the epidural I requested during the last round of drugs. As I didn't respond well to the meds ( not enough dilation , labour not progressing) it became an EMCS when DD1 went into distress. Inductions are not for the faint hearted as they can be lengthy and very painful. The plus side is that you are in a controlled environment with your own team of experts! Go into it informed and be prepared to fight for what YOU guys want, we were too complacent and the whole process took far too long. Thankfully my daughter was wide awake, very curious and healthy... Docs were very surprised considering the amt of drugs I'd been on ! Good luck Grin
