Torn labia - will NHS help?

I didn't realise it was possible, but while I didn't tear backwards, my labia tore on one side during birth :(

It was stitched at the time but I thought then it felt odd. Now a month postpartum and the stitches have gone, but it is uncomfortable. I have just had a look with a mirror. Basically one bit is hanging down in the wrong place leaving a triangular gap. I think a couple of stitches would reshape it back to how it was making it very easy to fix.

Did anyone have anything similar? Was it fixed and if so who by? My GP have walk in minor surgery, could I go there?

Any advice welcome.

yes, you should be able to ask for it to be repaired properly now the swelling has gone down

I had and still have this a yr later.... it doesn't cause me problems so I cba to re do my vagina Haha, but I did hear that I could get it 'fixed' if I wanted, if yours is causing you problems then nhs will probably sort it for you :)

It is too late to simply stitch now, but it is possible to refashion it. Your GP will be able to refer you to gynae for this, not something that can be done in a GP minor surgery setting. Have you got your appointment for your 6 week post natal check yet? You are still quite early on in your recovery though, you might be advised to wait a little longer first. Labial grazes can take a long time to heal unfortunately.

It is 8 week check here so they can do vaccinations at the same time.

I had mine 'fixed' but they ballsed it up and it's now worse than it ever was.

Have you seen your GP?
I had a small 'hole' (sorry if TMI) where a few of my stitches popped. Gradually it got smaller and healed after about 3 months. Tea tree oil in a shallow bath everyday helped.

Yes they will fix it my was done after 2nd ds was born, but they just cut it away. It looks fine now. The doctor at check up can refer you.

No, I haven't seen GP yet, as today was my first babyfree moment to properly inspect the damage. i will wait and see what they say.

As some of the other posters said, it is still early days. IME it takes about a year for healing to settle down, although the majority occurs in the first 2 weeks.

i didn't have my labial tear stitched because I know it can be excruciating. It was quite big but now just a notch that I don't notice.
