Hi all

Am hoping for a home waterbirth and have done hypnobirthing classes. Just wondered if anyone has any nice stories to share where they've done the same?

Thanks :-)

I had a birthing pool at my local hospital :-) First time mama, Just under 6hour active labour till birth. Healthy Baby girl weighing 7lb 13 oz. I just went with the flow, used my breathing to help and found hand/knees positon most comfortable. Good luck xx

If you go on the web site for pool in a box ,its full of great tips on using your birthing pool really well and clever positions etc

I've had two home births and did hypnotherapy CDs. I did try a hypnobirthing class between my first and second dc but it was a bit woo and the teacher told me it wouldn't hurt Hmm. Of course it does still hurt, running a marathon would hurt if you'd never really used your running muscles before, but it is manageable with the techniques.

DC2 was probably the best experience, she was born in the water and was totally chilled out. I had no tearing, just a small graze that didn't need stitching and because she was back to back I used all the breathing and visualisation techniques for quite a while bouncing on my birthing ball and only got in for the end.

If I have another uncomplicated vaginal delivery I'd do it exactly the same. Or an elective c-section if in hospital with complications! Grin

2 easy births in pools. The first of which I trained for using the natal CDs. The second of which I just kind of breathed the pain away without fear and had not even a paracetamol.

The HIGH I got after the second was incredible and had me bounding into parenthood.

Yup big high after dc2 here too. In fact we all had a glass of prosecco at my insistence!

No drugs and natural third stage too.

I tried for a home water birth but in the end things went too fast my advice as soon as you know your in labor half fill the pool with cold water then top up with hot when your ready to go in.

4 lovely home water birth stories here :)
Am actually gutted that I won't get to give birth again!
I didn't do hypnobirthing classes, but did listen to the CDs (and regularly fell asleep to them!)
I bought a TENS machine, and never got to try gas and air :(
Baby 1 MW arrived at 1130 baby arrived at 1214, baby the gas and air made it into the house cos she had a student with her to help bring things in from the car Grin
I've never needed stitches, which I give the water credit for, seeing as I don't have small babies

I've had two waterbirths - one at a MLU and the second at home (bought a pool from ebay). Both were wonderful positive experiences. No drugs or g&a just breathing and movement. No stitching required even though DS was 9lbs 3. I also felt incredibly high afterwards and very chilled (that did not last after 12 months of severe sleep deprivation through).

Good luck!

I wanted a home birth with my first. I have everything in the garage but unfortunately it was unused as my Mother guilt-tripped me into going into hospital and i had an awful labour if i'm honest. I know the important thing is my son was delivered healthy and with no distress but honestly, the fucking pain they put me through by sticking me on a Syntocinon drip, not sure ill ever forgive them for that.

So im pregnant with baby 2. Just found out, and i would LOVE to have a home birth with this one. I think they may let me as its my second and i had a doula with my first, so plan on doing the same with this one too.

Only thing that worries me is i also found hypnobirthing a bit too woo for me. I didn't do any courses so may look into that, but with my previous labour i really did use the gas and air as a crutch. i meant they were wrestling the bloody thing from my grasp and in the end just left me with the mouth piece to bite down on. Can you still have gas and air at a home birth? The no pain relief thing scares the hell out of me Confused

dizhin79 · 16/01/2014 09:20

you get gas, air and I think pethidine at home, the mw's said to me yesterday we'll full our car boots with the stuff in case you want any Grin

Am planning on my 1st being at home in about 8 weeks too, am looking at pools this week to give birth into so hoping that will be even more lovely Grin

sebsmummy1 · 16/01/2014 09:34

Ooooh that sounds good to me. The only pain relief the bastards let me have was gas and air and a shot of Pethidine midway through. If I could deal with no. 1 labour with just that I can definitely do it again.

Thank you xx
