37 weeks tomorrow Grin I don't know how I've made it this far with the various health problems I have, including an extremely painful back. Midwife told me today baby is engaged and could come at any time! Had steroids a few weeks ago so his lungs should be nice and ready, so please come out baby!!

I have a sweep a week today as I can't go to full term, ideally I would like him to come before that. What (if anything) worked for you when trying to induce labour?

i had this conversation with a client yesterday. I really think that the best thing to do is set a delivery date with your obs.

And then try to forget about it. Recreational sex only, eat what you like. Have treats. Do anything pleasant and distracting. See or phone friends and talk about anyhthing else. Laughter is ideal.

Trying to make things happen and the accompanying obsessive vigilence makes no difference to the outcome IMO. It just makes you stressed and unhappy.

I can't imagine that anything short of induction will make you go into spontaneous labour at only 37 weeks unless you're about to do so anyway.

bluebeanie · 10/01/2014 20:23

Sex and reflexology. I gave birth 40 weeks and 12 days - the day I was due to be induced. Phew

StillPukin · 11/01/2014 16:40

I hate to tell you but,,,
I'm 40 + 5 and getting fed up, so far I've tried... walking every day, sex, curries, pineapple, acupressure and so far nowt! Not a thing. No Braxton Hicks. The bump hasn't even lowered a blip.
It'll happen when it happens sigh

I ate a Bombay bad boy pot noodle after I read loads of people went into labour after eating them. May have been a coincidence but I started having contractions 12 hours later!

nipple stimulation??Grin

Nothing works.

Babies come when they're ready.

All of the old wives tales - sex, pineapple, curry, walks - if they worked, you'd be advised not to do them at all in pregnancy.

They 'work' through coincidence. I ate a box of Jaffa cakes the evening before I went into labour with DS. I could suggest those, but they'll only 'work' if you're due to go into labour anyway.

Both of my DC engaged early. DD was an induction at 40+15, DS was spontaneous labour at 40w (40+10 hospital dates).

old wives tales - sex, pineapple

An old wife once told me I should never have sex with a pineapple.

Like a fool, I ignored her and couldn't sit down for a week.

StillPukin · 12/01/2014 15:08

Suzanne That really made me laugh! And now my boys want to know what I'm chuckling to myself about!!

MrsPatMustard · 12/01/2014 19:02

Suzanne laughing so hard now I may well go into labour...

Well not getting anywhere, tried everything except the pineapple! Hope my sweep on Thursday works, don't fancy being induced!

Don't bother with the pineapple.
You have to eat at least 7, core included, to get even close to enough of the 'hormone' (not the right word but it's late and my brain is dying on me) for it to work.
I was engaged from 35 weeks with my youngest, had 4 sweeps between 38-40 weeks and had him at 40+4.
Just give up and enjoy the peace lol.
