I'm planning on begging my consultant at Musgrove to give me an ELCS in a few weeks. I was wondering if anyone had similar experience? I want to do a background search on the consultants and staff there. Thank you in advance and happy pregnancies ladies smile

You'll need to show you are aware of the risks and benefits of both vaginal and caesarean birth (have a look at the NICE caesarean guideline)
guidance.nice.org.uk/CG132

You'll probably be pushed into counselling to deal with your 'psychological' problem (Huh...what misogyny!!!!!!). I know someone who said she was gang raped which was a complete lie but her view was that when a system is so stacked against women making intelligent choices about what happens to their own bodies then there is nothing wrong with lying.

The west country has some notorious hospitals as they are 'proud'of their low caesarean rates. However, the Musgrove doesn't have a particularly low overall caesarean rate although it does have a lowish elective rate so be prepared to do battle.

There was no resident anaesthetist at the Musgrove in the last CQC report so there is one good reason for c/s! If there is no resident anaesthetist it means not only do they have to rely on identifying an obstetrician but also an anaesthetist if things go wrong in a vaginal birth. With a c/s, you have them both there at the start.

Have a read of page five in this report about issues with maternity service:

Good luck coco88 hope you get your wish

thank you so much ushy! That is so helpful. I'm going to print and read this report in detail. I don't blame your friend. It appears, the moment we are pregnant, we almost get treated like a dumb woman who doesn't know any better. Not looking forward to the battle but I definitely cannot to do this without a resident anesthetist! Good luck to you to with your pregnancy (or baby?!) and thank you again Smile
