38 weeks & panicking about home birth

My gas & air hasn't arrived,
I pick up the pool Friday
38+1 on Friday
I'm working tomorrow
My lounge is being redecorated, not finished til Friday.

I thought I'd just do what I did last time and make a nest in my bedroom with my tens. Only I wouldn't have to transfer to hospital.

Christmas has really got in the way of home birth admin and I've been shunted between three different hospital midwife teams trying to organise this.

At the moment I'm terrified Ill go into labour before things are sorted.

Do I just give up & hope I can get into the midwife led unit at the hospital?

No, don't give up. The pool will be there tomorrow. Then as long as you have your TENS and your nest in your bedroom you are ready, even if the midwives aren't.

Don't the midwives bring the gas and air? If not, then that is only one small bit of it, but you have time for that to come too.

The important bit, is knowing which midwifery team to call on the day. Without knowing the details, could you just decide to leave the admin up to them, and get on with nesting, as long as you have a central number to get hold of them on the day??

You have done it before, you know you can do it again. Don't give up, it will possibly be more stress and hassle for you to change tack and go for a midwife led unit.

And don't forget that with the home birth you avoid the awful post natal care, waiting to be discharged, leaving your children, and enduring a journey home.

Why hasn't your gas and air arrived? Here all the kit gets set out at 36 weeks. When you get home from work get yourself comfy in bed with a cup of tea and your notes and phone the midwife team. You shouldn't have to be organising this - its their job, so kick up a bit of fuss!

Can somebody come round and help you get your bedroom organised for the birth? Is that where the pool is going?

Thanks for replies. Trying not to give up on idea of home birth. If I make it to tomorrow night I should have a birth room set up with a pool in it my lounge) & the nice man at the gas & air delivery said he'd make sure I got it tomorrow.

I'm quite late with organisation due to receiving conflicting advice from midwife care teams at 3 different hospitals. I've been messed around & just given plain misinformation. They closed my local maternity Unit but i still have ante natal care there, I have a community midwife from the hospital I originally chose to give birth in (where I had ds) but I'm 'not allowed' to use their home birth team due to my post code. The new hospital I've been assigned to have different procedures & its been a real pain to organise.

How you doing today zen?

ZenNudist · 10/01/2014 18:20

Hi temporary thanks for asking after me. I'm a lot more positive that I may yet get my home birth. I have all my kit but my husband buggered off to Sheffield (1.5h away) for night out so won't be helping me set up lounge as birth room. I Cant do it as involves moving furniture, got SPD.

Here's fingers crossed for another night without going into labour?!
