Does anyone have any advice or positive stories? My contractions are now strong and lasting about a minute, but they are anything from 6-11 minutes apart. I have had many baths, have been sick after taking paracetamol and have had no sleep.

mine were like that for my first. it took 45 hours before they were close enough to go into hospital. but once I got there ds was born after 3 hours and it was all relatively straightforward. the slow start wasn't nice at the time but in the end I was happy that it was that bit that took ages rather than the more active stage of labour!

one tip: I'd make sure you're spending lots of time leaning forwards so that baby can get into a good position. I was told that it might have been taking so long to get to the active stage because baby was back to back.

good luck!

I'm guessing that you are full term and ready to have your baby....

are you able to rest and doze or are contractions too strong?

if not, go for a walk...stay upright, bounce gently on a gym/birthing ball.

I think I've heard that walking up and down stairs is good for progressing labour?

try and stay relaxed and use some breathing exercises to help you cope with the pain.

good luck. it won't be long now until you meet your baby.

Mine started like this. They slowly built up until they were painful but were from 3-12 mins apart and as i had always been told that its only worth bothering once they are regularly 5 mins apart, i assumed it wasn't labour. Well 72hrs later my waters went after having a bath and 2 hours later my baby was born. Fingers crossed you are well on your way.

Try and move as much as you can. I found that deep breathing whilst swaying stood up helped me get through a bit of it. I was also on the birthing ball a lot. Although the start was very long, by the time my waters had gone i was already 6cm and that was without any pain relief and not realising i was in labour.

Thank you, yes I'm 41 weeks. I'm not managing to sleep as I doze for 5 minutes then a contraction wakes me up.
