Second birth advice,

I'm currently 12 weeks, I know it's very premature to be thinking about birth but thought is ask advice. My first birth was 52 hours, waters broke, no contractions, induced, episiotomy, ventouse delivery. Just wondering if anyone who experienced similar has had a quicker/ easier birth and if I could consider/have a water birth ? Thanks in advance

My friend had almost exactly the same experience as you described, except she had been having contractions on and off for a few days before going on the drip. She had a much shorter, calm water birth with her second. But you may wish to go over your birth notes so that you can find out exactly what happened and if there is any particular reason things didn't progress? You can write to the hospital to get them.

I know the reason for assisted delivery was because I was so exhausted midwives kept pushing my induced back further and further and eventually did it at half 12 at night, I had diamorphine too which made me even more tired which meant I couldn't push properly. If my induction had been the 24 hours planned before rather than the 24 hour late induction, I think I'd of progressed more :/

Yes. Nightmarish first birth here, followed by several gorgeous peaceful home births in water. It can be done. Good luck.,

As my they are meant to induce 24 hours after waters broke, but was 40 hours after they did mine, :(

I was induced; like you my waters broke, then they inducedending in an episostomy and ventouse delivery.

With DC2, labour started in the morning with mild contractions (after backpain overnight) which quickly got stronger, I was in hospital for 11am, and had the baby by 3pm, unassisted, with only gas and air. It was a totally different experience. Much more manageable.

I could have had a home delivery if I'd wanted AFAIK. (I was too scared to after the pain of the first - the epidural didn't work, and with the amount of syntocinon they'd given me, it was pain beyond belief).

Have you met your midwife yet? I'm sure she will be happy to talk about this kind of thing.

Most second labours are easier and shorter than first ones, that's a nice fact to remind yourself of :)

What does that say?! It should have said "induced"!

My first was forceps after induction and epidural. No-one made a squeak about me requesting a home birth for any of the subsequent children.

Find a good hypno birth practitioner... Seriously!!

And in my experience the discomfort of a labour that started itself off was nothing whatsoever like induction (and I had my epidural after just the pessary, with the drip only later).

OP I had a v similar first birth to yours. Am now 37 weeks with dc2 and really hoping for a better time of it. I found the experience so brutal and more painful than anyone could ever have prepared me for

My first labour was 40 hours, they broke my waters and I had an episiotomy and was preparing for intervention when I managed to give birth without.
Second was much better, labour was about 6 hours, I arrived at hospital at 9am and ds was born before midday. I had a lovely waterbirth, felt much more relaxed and in control.

Similar experience to you. Water broke, no contractions, induced, epidural, episiotomy and forceps, third degree tear. 35 weeks with second now, really hoping for a more natural birth. I am hoping to labour in water if the pool is free but they asked me to come out for the pushing so they can monitor the head crowning and hopefully avoid another bad tear. I will let you know how it goes.
