Im 38+6, kept getting woken up by really strong period pains that would also take over my lower back during the night, at one point I had to sit up through them, was so sure I was in labour and at 5 am fell asleep and now nothing !!

Have any of you had that?
Could this false labour thing go on and on and on....?

Im miserable, and achy and I have no idea whats ahead of me ( who has, I know!) but maybe some of you have had the same thing and could reassure me that its the beginning of the end?... :(

Hi, I was due on Monday and had backache and short bursts of pains both Monday and Tuesday night, but nothing now. I thought it just be my body gearing up, well that's what I'm hoping!

This is all preparatory……softening the cervix, jiggling the baby into a better position. All useful! It is often followed by a speedy labour.
Most important thing is to distract yourself until something more definitive happens.

Noone ever thought themselves into labour.

I had this regular contractions all day which never got longer or more intense. Midwife checked me at 5pm and I was only 3-4cm and not really in labour. She did say that she could see baby getting lower but the contractions weren't dilating me.
That eve the contractions became more intense. At 1.30am they ramped up to every 15 min, half and hour later they were coming every 5 min. She was born at 4am after only 15 min of pushing. So yes they will be doing something even if its not proper labour.

I hope it did something... It felt like such strong contractions and then disappeared? I actually thought my labour was going to be quick if they started this painful. now I think it will be long like with my son.. They have completely stopped now.

I have MW appointment on Thursday. She said she would do me a sweep... Lets see what happens!

Cln1510 good luck you are so close !! Im due on christmas day it feels like an eternity away!

Hi, My first pregnancy i didnt have any pre labour contractions or Braxton Hicks at all but for my second child ( 12 weeks old now ) , I was due on the 25 Sep, On the Sat 14th Sep for the first time ever I had really sore contraction type pains, from about 11pm til about 2am, so sore and getting more frequent to the point where we called to arrange childcare for our eldest child then they stopped ! Just totally went away ... Then I went into labour on the 17th September and had a natural very quick labour and delivery (in hospital at 1pm, baby delivered 3.04pm). So i think the contractions the few days before were definitely my bodys way of getting things ready to go...

AFergie · 17/12/2013 17:57

Oh weeTeaJenny that is so reassuring.. I really hope it meant something was happening.
My feet have suddenly swollen up like crazy and I look like a balloon!!
But for now I have nothing, no twinges, nothing its all gone :(

Just thought of something, could having sex with my husband that night have triggered contractions that go nowhere, has anyone else experienced that around 39 weeks?
Does it mean that its not my body getting ready but just a reaction to the sex? Sorry thats a lot of questions and information..

Hi AFergie
I am also due Christmas Day & getting ransom cramps on and off.... This is DC #2 for me but doesn't make it any less frustrating !! We just want to get going don't we! You can have several false starts which is annoying. Sex can make the cervix more 'favourable'. Eg soft & stretchy so the pains you had might be the cervix opening and getting ready. It's all going in the right direction.

At this stage it's a case of keeping your mental strength more than anything. Let's keep the faith it will happen soon Wink

Ps fergie if your feet don't go down overnight you might want to get them checked tomorrow - esp if your hands also swell. Might be the old blood pressure creeping up as it can do at this stage xxx
