How did everyone feel physically after giving birth?

I knew I would be uncomfortable and in pain as i experienced this with my first. However this time, it seems to be worse even though i had an easier labour and tear wasnt as bad as the first time.
This time however, everything aches, back , hips, legs, arms, feet and hands. I had a sore back and hips in pregnancy and thought i would be fine as soon as DC2 was born, no such luck. i feel like i have a fever, but no temp and i have that achy feeling all over my skin, even my scalp. Some nights my temp rises to 38.5 but after paracetomol it goes down. The midwife said its normal and should be ok in a day or two but i feel like i am getting worse. Gave birth 8 days ago.

Anyone else feel like this and how long did it last? after the pregnancy from hell i was hoping to be feeling a little better by now.

I felt like i had been hit by a bus after i had dd4! All the aches that you have described plus headaches, swollen feet and immense tiredness. I have honestly never felt so awful.

I kept myself dosed up on paracetamol and just rested as much as poss and i was back to my usual self by 3 wks.

i hope you feel better soon! Will you be seeing the mw again at ten days?

Mena1 · 16/12/2013 16:20

oh no Sad , thats awful. I hope I dont tear my hair out and at least make it to 3 weeks.

I managed to get an appointment witg my gp for this evening so hopefully he can help me somewhat and seeing the midwife on wednesday.

after being on bed rest with the pregnancy the last thing I wanted was to be confined to the bed again.

this is definitely my last baby! getting too old for this sh*t.Confused

I felt quite good in a been hit by a bus kind of way. People commented on my agility and how well I seemed.
When I felt like how you're describing, I was coming down with mastitis. Is that a possibility?
Take some neurofen. It's fine with breastfeeding.

trikken · 16/12/2013 18:30

Yep hit by a bus.Shakey, painy, and I had the most horrific cough and cold so that didnt help.

whereisthewitch · 16/12/2013 18:35

I felt awful after dc1, but I tried to do too much too soon. With this next one I intend to stay in my pajamas and in the house for at least the first 2wks!

Take it easy OP, hope you feel better soon.

Sunshineonsea · 16/12/2013 18:47

Absolutely fucked!
Flu like symptoms can equal mastitis, if your boob/a feel a bit sore then mention it to mw or gp, antibiotics will clear it up in a few days

mamachelle · 16/12/2013 19:50

Mena - how did you get on with the g.p? Aha, I said dd4 was my last too ... am now expecting dc5. Hopefully i bounce back quicker next time!

Mena1 · 16/12/2013 20:14

gp said I should be gine in a few weeks and if I still feel like this at six weeks to come back..... yeah right! I think the mastitis could be a possibility I am def over producing and dc2 is feeding well but not as much as I need. I think I might have to express to avoid mastitis. Seeing mw tomorrow and wednesday so I will mention it to her.

I will def try neurofen especially after the idiot gp I had today said to stick to paracetamol ( even after I told her its not working). thank you all Grin

Ok this is probably unlikely but you could have some sort of post partum infection, so please, please don't wait - go to the labour ward and ask them to check you over.

You may have some retained placenta or something else - women do die from this sort of thing so please do not wait.

Go back tomorrow.

How old is the baby?

IHeardMummyDissingParcelforce · 16/12/2013 20:20

Read this please

The HCPs are not always aware of it so DO tell them you think this might be possible. Print it off if necessary.

Hopefully it's nothing so serious. But please get onto someone about it asap.

IHeardMummyDissingParcelforce · 16/12/2013 20:21

Sorry see that it's 8 days

well the MW should know better. This is NOT normal Angry

Ring OOH and mention your fever and that you think it is getting worse.

You should be on antibiotics at least. Hopefully someone will see you tonight and give you something to take.

Another link

BitScary · 16/12/2013 21:33

If it is the beginning of mastitis, lovely hot shower or bath and knead out your breasts towards the nipple.
neurofen reduces inflammation - I think it's what stopped my mastitis from becoming a problem.
Really hope you can sleep tonight op and keep up your water intake.

plentyofsoap · 17/12/2013 06:24

I felt shocking, far worse second time round. I then got ill with colds ect and its only after 8 weeks that I have felt human again. I was also on bed rest before hand.
Check your iron levels? I have started suppliments and feel alot better.

plentyofsoap · 17/12/2013 06:28

Forgot to add I had an infection on my section scar. The hospital took a swab but mw did not tell me the results. It was two weeks later then I had the anti biotics so like others say check for infections.

msmiggins · 17/12/2013 06:36

As others have said you need to be checked out - today. Ring your GP or the hospital.

TheGreatHunt · 17/12/2013 06:38

Yes this doesn't sound normal to me! Talk to the MW again, explain its 8 days and query if it's really normal.

IHeardMummyDissingParcelforce · 17/12/2013 07:45
