This is my second birth, first 3 days of pessaries 18hrs of pitocin drip epidural and EMCS... Everything I didn't want!
This time I'm 40+7 and my waters broke last night at 23.40 as I'm a VBAC hopeful they let me home after baby checks were fine. Contractions got stronger and stronger got 10mins apart and stopped at 10am... So disappointed. So now they have stated again since 5pm 15mins apart on my birthing ball bouncing like a mad woman but will have to go in to be checked at 10pm when they are planning on giving me x1 pessary. If no joy... It's the drip again for me.
Please share your experiences of pessaries and has anyone had pitocin and not needed an epidural?

I was induced with the pessary at 10 days overdue. It was fine. Pessary kicked everything off. I didn't need the drip at all, and went from 1cm at 23:30 to 7cm at 03:30 and delivery at 06:40 My waters only went when I was pushing. It was a lovely perfect vaginal birth and I only needed paracetamol and a few whiffs of gas and air. So it really can be all lovely and straightforward!

Good luck.

Thank you so much Persuasion! That's what I need to hear! I had a closed unfavourable cervix the first time, I'm hoping that I'm much further along this time so might respond better!

I was induced with DD1. Straight on the drip, ramped up every 30 mins, dreadful pain, epidural, episiotomy, ventouse. Safe birth.

I was induced with DD2. Straight on the drip, again turned up when nothing seemed to be happening, then bam! from 2cm up to 9cm in an hour. No time for epidural, managed fine on gas and air. No episiotomy, no tears, no stitches! Brilliant post-birth recovery.

Good luck :)

Good luck impatient! Wishing you all the very best!

I'm very interested, due to be induced soon too. The positive experiences here are very heartening!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 12/12/2013 20:11

I was induced at 42 +5 with ds1.

I had the pessary at 9pm and he was born at 4.45 am the next morning.

Good luck op!

Thanks all of you! Arrived at the hospital and as I'm contracting they are giving me until 3am to go into active labour but by then it will be too late for pessary so straight to drip. Thanks for the stories keep them coming!

Wow! I'm sure congrats are in order now!
I'm in hospital having started induction thurs am. Had pessary - nothing. Had 3x gel- nothing. They still can't even break my waters so got to be examined soon and if no change will be c sec. They have only just considered that as I had a coloposcopy 3 yrs ago due to abnormal cells after a smear- the cervix may well be scarred hense why not dilating due to scar tissue. Exactly what I didn't want for my first birth but hey ho- ion talking to the mw's here I am def more the abnormal induction story! Still - will await to hear if that is the case but as I'm contracting or anything it looks likely.
Hope new born snuggles have been wonderful inpatient mummy!

Blondie276 · 14/12/2013 06:48

Not contracting even....

WhispersOfWickedness · 14/12/2013 06:52

Hope you are cuddling a new baby now, impatient! Smile Thanks

Blondie, hope it's not too long before you are cuddling yours too! Thanks

impatienttobemummy · 14/12/2013 16:30

Delivered vaginally at 22.56 last night, needed forceps at the very end as babies head was on the large side but I am very happy with the outcome and feel that my Induction was very positive and felt in control throughout. Epidural was essential the contractions are just too strong to labour for that many hours otherwise!
Cuddling DS2 as I type!
Happy birthing ;-)
