Shorter pushing stage second time around?

Hi all, just wondering if those who had long pushing stages first time round had faster second time? I pushed for 2 1/2 hours with dc1 and due to Give birth in a few weeks, that's the thing I found most hard, hoping for a slightly quicker pushing phase!

I pushed for just over an hour first time and 4 minutes second time. Hopefully you'll have an easier time this time around! Good luck.

Oh yes! With DC1, I pushed for 2.5hrs before they agreed she didn't seem to be going anywhere & then used forceps. DC2 was five pushes in total and I could feel him really moving with the first three, the fourth was the head and the fifth was the body.

BackforGood · 08/12/2013 18:26

Oh yes - she shot out. No resistance after the first one Wink

lljkk · 08/12/2013 18:37

Yes, like 1/4-1/3 the time of first. Took me until 4th child to learn how to let my body do it & just relax, though.

ohcluttergotme · 08/12/2013 18:41

Definitely my dd took hours and needed forceps then ds came very quickly. Arrived at hospital at 4am e was born at 4:21am.
Due my third and hoping third will be as quick?

peachactiviaminge · 08/12/2013 18:47

First was 15 minutes and I had to stop after her head as she had the cord wrapped round her neck, second was recorded as 3 minutes and the poor student barely caught him he was like a bloody rocket Grin

Locketjuice · 08/12/2013 18:56

Ds1 was in labour for 24 hrs and pushed for 2 hours

Dd2 was in labour 3 hours from waking up to having her in my arms and pushed for about 10-20 mins Smile

rach6122 · 08/12/2013 22:28

Ooh fabulous thanks everyone, feel a lot more positive now!

DC1 waters broke at 3am while I was asleep, he was born 17 hours later after 2.5 hours pushing and LOTS of stitches to fix me up after. In fact the stitches took nearly 3 hours. He weighed 8lb 6oz

DC2, contractions started, and waters needed to be broke 10 mins before she popped out. The pushing stage was 45 mins and only needs a few stitches. Stitches took 15 mins. She weighed 9lb 1oz and was back to back.

harrietspy · 09/12/2013 08:40

ds1 3+ hours pushing. Ds2 15 mins. Second time around I didn't resist the contractions. First time round I made it much harder for myself! (Exactly like Caitlin Moran's description of her two labours in How to be a woman).

Hope all goes really well!

princesscupcakemummyb · 09/12/2013 09:31

2nd was 5-7 mins approx pushing

3rd was more like 4-5mins he shot out lol

msmiggins · 09/12/2013 09:34

1st was 12 hour labour and took two pushes.
2nd was a three hour labour and I pushed for 20 minutes.

Seff · 09/12/2013 09:42

Hmmm my "official" timing of my second stage with my DD (first pregnancy) was 17 minutes... Probably a little longer as I was pushing without realising.

This one could be quicker, you say?!

(2 days of latent labour though with on-off contractions, can I have that bit cut down instead pls??)

LadyGoneGaga · 09/12/2013 16:14

Oh yes! First was in labour for 24 hours, he got stuck at pushing stage (asynclitic) and second stage was recorded as 6 hours in total . He eventually was ventoused out.

Second was only 20 mins pushing and it was only that long because the little monkey had her elbow up by her ear!

Due with third and hoping for faster still.

PastaBeeandCheese · 09/12/2013 18:04

Oh good. I'm hopeful it will be quicker this time too OP!

It wasn't that long last time but I love the idea of a few pushes this time!

bundaberg · 09/12/2013 18:07

my second was longer, but that's because he was back to back.

ds3 was super quick though, matter of minutes

rach6122 · 09/12/2013 18:15

Pasta me too, although I can't let myself believe ill be that lucky! But this thread had made me feel much better.

I know what you mean about not getting your hopes up but the midwife commented that chances are it will be much easier and quicker this time. She phrased it as 'it's more a case of bad luck if it's the same or worse rather than good luck if it's easier and quicker'.

I'm clinging to that.

DramaAlpaca · 09/12/2013 20:14

Definitely quicker each time:

DC1 - 2 hours, then they produced the forceps Sad
DC2 - 20 minutes
DC3 - about three minutes, a couple of pushes and he flew out so fast the midwife only just managed to catch him!

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 09/12/2013 20:16

2.5 first time, second came with a mistimed cough-probably 5 mins.
Good luck x

mummratheevertired · 09/12/2013 20:21

First time I pushed for an hour second time for 15 minutes

WoodBurnerBabe · 09/12/2013 20:28

First one was 1hr15min, 2nd was 6min, 3rd decided waiting was for wimps and came all in one push on the second go, so about 2min. Second midwife was running into the room and only managed to get one glove on to just about catch her as she shot out. She was fab, 45min from first contraction to delivery and we were home 4 hours later. Did school run 20 hours after she was born.

MrsChristmasBungle · 09/12/2013 20:31

First time - 1.5 hours

Second time - 5 minutes!!

My mw friend promised me I'd be done in 10 minutes second time round! It was all round much easier second time. Good luck!

MsFiremanSam · 09/12/2013 21:56

DS - 50 mins
DD - 20 mins
I remember pushing DD out and after about 10 minutes getting really annoyed because everyone had said it would just take a couple of pushes...it felt like ages!

ZaZazebra · 09/12/2013 22:00

First 2 hours. Hideous. 2nd 10 mins or so v quick. Good luck OP!
