Womans weight - water birth

My friend is due to have a september and really like the idea of a water birth - although she isn't a very large lady(weight wise) she is probly a little over weight.

She was wondering wether there is weight restriction for water births.

I would have thought that if anything the water would be easier and more comfortable if a bit on the heavy side as most women find it easier to move in water as you are naturally supported more. Easier for your birthpartner as well - instead of holding under your arms when squatting which my DH found rather taxing he found my sessions in the water gave him a break from physically supporting me lol
I am not a small lady and nobody mentioned water being a problem for me in terms of my weight. If one?s weight is of such an issue that it causes extra health problems it might be a different story though, dunno - no expert I?m afraid. Personally I would recomment water for labour every time. We just used a bath as couldn?t afford a hire pool and wanted a home birth. It was brilliant and the best pain reliever/relaxant for my whole labour.

I had a waterbirth with No 2 and I'm a "cuddly" size and no-one mentioned weight when I was in hospital.

I know someone who has quite a serious weight problem but she had no problem having a waterbirth at all. Hth.

She'd heard somewere that you need to 13stone or under inclding baby and that is her starting weight
