Normal after effects from birth?

DD1 was born early hours Saturday via vbac (induction).

Since getting home I've been trembling/quivering quite a lot and jolting a lot if that makes sense.

Also today my feet / ankles have ballooned and calves feel tight / achy

Does this all sound normal post birth stuff?!
Midwife isnt back until Thursday.

Congratulations!

My feet swelled up for the first time a few days after birth 1 I got given some stockings for it - it might be worth you adjust your GP/nurse/pharmacist/ for some too.

I had the shakes during birth, clearly from adrenaline, ut afterwards my main panic was about sweating - I didn't know to expect this. You can just telephone your HV/community midwives if you feel unsure. This might help to just put your mind at rest - you've got enough to do without extra little worries! Hope it's all going well for you.

No this doesn't sound normal. Not from my experience. Give your labour or postnatal ward a ring and describe your symptoms, do you have a temp? The shivering could be an infection. Give them a ring now, no reason to wait til the morning if your worried..

Congratulations by the way x

No it's doesn't sound normal to me after this longer my first thought was infection too.

Have you mentioned this to your mw?

I agree you should call tge ward for advice.

I had the jolting, some jitteryness and was hyper sensitive to noise. Think it was the fact my nerves were shot after the high emotion and exhaustion. I would just keep an eye out for a temperature and get your blood pressure checked. The cankle and fat feet are very common.hope you feel better soon.

Congratulations!

Doesn't sound normal to me...did you have any painkillers during labour, any stitches etc?

TheUnstoppableWindmill · 27/11/2013 07:47

I was shivering about 4/5 days after which a helpful MW said was 'my milk coming in'. Actually it was systemic mastitis. Try to get checked out for an infection and keep an eye on your temperature.
Congratulations on your new baby and good luck!

Thanks everyone!

Sorry only just managed to get back on.

Glad to hear the swelling is normal!

I've got the midwife coming for the 5 day check tomorrow so will definitely mention the shaking.

Sorry meant to say yes I had a 2nd degree tear (which has become painful today, it hasn't been until now) but no temperature which is good.
