And I don't mean.... Very ** painful etc. Wink I'm 41 weeks and I'm not scared about labour but what gets me anxious slightly is the fear of the unknown..... How would you describe the pains/sensations? Does it compare to any other pains? I heard early labour starts with a period pain feeling???

The sharp pain of stubbing your toe or when you bang your elbow in wrong place.

A pain that goes into your very bones.....

That and like being spilt in two....

Oh, yes, like when you thwack your elbow. But in my back. Good description!

Like someone is reaching inside your stomach and wringing your ovaries with their hands!

I think it is very dependent upon your body. How and where you suffer period cramps can be an indication. I only ever feel period pains in my back and during both my labours the contractions were only in my back and not in my bump at all (even though babies weren't back to back). I would describe the contraction as somone grabbing all the muscles in my back into a tight fist and then twisting really hard! The break between contractions does help you to recover though. If you do feel the contractions in your back, I found a tens machine really helps.

Mine were like very strong period pains. Then I got put on the drip and they turned into something out of this world. It felt like someone had a burning saw and was cutting me in half in the middle of my bump. Absolute agony. I think this extreme is only when you are induced though? I eventually got an epidural and was pain free :)
