This is my third child, and a homebirth would be perfect for us except for the fact that we live in a freezing cold*, cluttered shoe-box. We'd basically all just be sat around the gas fire, staring at me moaning.

For those that have already has homebirths in less than five-star accomodation...... how was it? What did the midwife do if there were long periods where there wasn't much for her to do? Do they complain about the cold/lack of hot water/piles of stuff everywhere/yadda yadda yadda?

On the plus side, I do love the thought of them buggering off soon afterwards tho and me already being at home with DP and my older girls.

*baby due Feb. It will be cold.

Well the clutter is not a problem unless it would impede paramedic access, for example. You don't have to live at the Hilton to have a HB! But how cold is cold? It is really important for a baby to be born into a warm environment and kept very warm while they transition to life (which is why labour wards are kept almost uncomfortably warm). Is it really that cold? Also the lack of hot water sounds like a waterbirth might be a no go...
