Being induced on Monday - has anyone had a successful induction?

Will be 37+3 with twins and accept that getting them out at this stage is a good thing, so not looking for advice about refusing induction or delaying things. I never thought I'd get this far and don't know anyone who's had a positive experience with induction. I had syntocinon to speed up my first (36 hour) labour and it was hideous.

So. Has Propess alone actually worked for anyone?

Factors in my favour (I guess, please correct me if I'm kidding myself):

  • two previous vaginal births, labour spontaneous both times, a few days before due date, second was 12 hours from first contrax to birth.
  • been having the odd contraction for a week now, only a couple have been painful but others very strong with lots of pressure and lasting a minute or so
  • losing mucus since yesterday.

Could it work out for me do you think, or should i cut my losses and push for a CS if the Propess doesn't kick things off?

I have had two normal births. First was spontaneous 3 days early, 7 hours all in. Second I was 10 days late and seriously pissed off. Would have done anything to get going so I was induced. Induction was done at about 12 noon, pessary. Nothing happened really until 10.15pm when I suddenly went into labour. DD was born 25 minutes later. All over very fast, home by lunchtime the next day. It wasn't really a big deal for me, just hanging around the hospital at first waiting to get going, good luck xx

I had propess only. Was induced at 38+4 at 9am ish. Fairly regular contractions throughout the day, got quite bad around 8pm but examination showed no movement. Went to bed with paracetamol, codeine and tamazipam. Got up at about 4.30am as contractions stopped. Soon as I stood up my waters went and ds was born two hours later!

I was induced at 40weeks exactly. propess in at midnight, contractions started a couple of hours later, waters went at 4am. by 9am I was fully dialated and baby came just after 11. the contractions were painful and the pushing bit long due to being induced but I'd say it was a good labour and birth. good luck Smile

Lovely one at 38 + 0. Pessary in at 3pm all gentle until midnight, established labour 3am, born 5.14am. I was already 2cm before hand though.

Thanks all. Got more contractions coming today and have a manic desire to get laundry done so hopefully I'm some of the way there!

Monday last week at 35 and 6 I went in to be started off had two doses of the gel and we all thought they were working a treat turned out that whilst I was getting some rather good looking contractions they did nothing at all to my cervix Tuesday afternoon after a intense chat with the midwife in an effort to avoid the drip I gave her permission to 'be assertive' with my cervix whilst seeing if she could get my waters to go. It was fucking brutal for about ten mins and i wish i hadnt asked what it was she did to it,BUT it went from being high back and closed to baby coming out quite quickly and no CS or drip no stitches.

However I doubt she would have been able to manipulate my cervix as she did if I hadn't had lots of vaginal deliveries.

Over all it went well

HA! ask RiotBecky

I had an attempted induction at 38wks, went in on Tuesday 1St of October and had the gel (prostin), had some contractions but they stopped. had some more prostin, a few more contractions, they stopped. had a couple of sweeps, a failed sweep which left me bleeding, and a bit more prostin. by this time I'd had the maximum amount of prostin and had been in hospital for 5 days and was missing my darling DaddyThunder and my furbaby. had a day's rest, then had the propess. by this time I was on first name terms with everyone including the cleaners and the 6am tea trolley lady. the propess did sweet fuck all so they decided to break my waters. a few hours after breaking them they stuck me on the drip, after being on the drip from 8am til 4am on nothing but gas and air and the injection they took me in for a c-section. so they attempted to induce me for a week and ended up ripping the little bugger out of me Envy

Congratulations!

I've been induced 3 times:

Ds1 just one pessary 3 hour labour

Ds2 two pessaries 20 min labour

Ds3 drip cos they wanted him out quick and could break my waters and I was already 3-4cm, 25 min labour

All were fine I can't imagine going into labour naturally, ds1 and ds2 were both born within 12 hours of the pessaries too

Good luck!
