Can I chose my induction date?

Ok so booked in on Tuesday to see midwives about induction.
My midwife said they would do it when I wanted from next Tuesday.
So potentially I could be induced Wednesday at 41+1?
just seems odd to me that I wasn't allowed a sweep today at 40+4 and have to wait for a sweep on Tuesday when I could start induction the day after at 41?

Have I got this correct?

I had sweep with my dd2 at 40 weeks which worked for me so I guess the policy is different in different areas?

It depends on your hospital's policy!!

OddBoots · 03/11/2013 14:43

I think it varies from hospital to hospital but one thing that you do need to bear in mind is that even if the date is in the diary, if they find themselves extra busy or short staffed they will postpone the induction.

5madthings · 03/11/2013 14:48

It varies, my hospital policy is temr plus 14 days unless medical reasons but they can be flexible sometimes and offer you what they have a available but as oldboots says if they are busy they will postpone.

Frecklesandspecs · 03/11/2013 15:04

So potentially in some places it could be nearer to 43 weeks!!
Its all driving me nuts!

If you google "NICE guidelines on induction" it says they must offer you an induction FROM 41+0 - some midwives would recommend you to wait until 42 weeks but if you really wanted and stuck to your guns you can get it for anytime after 41 weeks Smile x

My local hospital policy is up to 42 weeks with your 2nd+ baby, longer than that you have to fight your case as they are really not keen. Their preference is actually 41 weeks for all women!

I got induced twice on the day I chose, I had no Childcare options on a Tuesday so Monday it was.

GreenGiant3 · 06/11/2013 13:17

Mosman- how overdue were you with your inductions?

Mosman · 06/11/2013 13:43

I wasn't at all, it was on their due date and a bit before, I just explained I needed it to be done and they did it, two different hospitals too.
