Hi all,

Just wondering what people's experiences are of giving birth at UHCW. I have ears mixed reviews about the hospital in general, but nothing about the maternity wards.

Please share your experiences with me so I can ether decide a hospital birth, or potentially a home birth.

Thank you

Hi, I had DD there via a water birth four months ago. Generally I found the whole experience pretty positive. My midwife was lovely (as were all the staff I saw until I got to the maternity ward after giving birth), there was no waiting around, happily the pool was free, and the suite itself was nice. The midwife discussed how much we wanted her there and as a result pretty much left us to it until things got going properly. All in all I think it was probably as relaxed as it could be!
Couple of down points though the rooms aren't soundproof and noise seems to travel REALLY well, so I could hear this one other woman absolutely screaming the place down! Also a couple of the nurses on the postnatal ward were just vile, but the rest of them more than made up for it. Most of the other women seemed to have really short stays so this might not be an issue for you.
Is the midwife led unit open yet? That looked really good and I was desperate to go there but it wasn't open in time.

I had a positive experience there 7.5 years ago when I had DS1. MWs were lovely, as were the surgical team who performed my emergency section. I was in for a few days afterwards and have no complaints.

Also the toast they provide during labour is literally the best toast I have ever eaten!

I have had a home birth in coventry (actually two) which was actively encouraged by my midwife. So can't comment on walsgrave hosp, but thought i was very well looked after in the general coventry area!

The new MLU is open and is lovely (and also means less people on Labour ward) and is all is well you can go home from there and not go on postnatal ward
