Alternatives to section?

I had a terribly traumatic birth with DS, and it's been recommended by my MH consultant that I have a section.

I am fine with this, but wondered if there are any alternatives I could be looking into?

I mean, I know it has only 2 ways to get out, but I mean is there something else? Some other medication or hypnosis or something? I don't mind having a section, but I'd be keen not to, if it were a possibility.

I'm so sorry you had a traumatic birth with your DS.

I have read lots of stories where women who had a traumatic first birth went on to have very empowering and positive experiences with subsequent births. Smile

I would look into getting a doula.

You could also have a look at Gowri Motha's website. She is an obstetrician turned natural birthing practitioner. I followed her book which is great but if you are based in London and funds permit you can see her.

You could try hypnobirthing - we thought it was fantastic although I ended up having an EMCS in the end because of failure to progress (back to back baby didn't want to come out!) FWIW, the c-section and recovery were much less traumatic than I'd feared, and I look back on it all as a very positive birth experience.

Thank you for the suggestions - I will look into those!
